Destination Guidance In Non-Digitized MAP Area, Function

When driving outside of the digitized map area (e.g. plant grounds, parking houses, dirt roads,...), however still within the boundaries of the CD-ROM map, the navigation processor switches over to "Guidance in non-digitized map area".
The message:

"OFF ROAD" appears on the radio and navigation unit (A2/56) display.

If the vehicle is also located outside of the CD-ROM map boundaries, the message:

"OFF MAP" appears.

In both cases, only basic location finding (dead reckoning) with correction using GPS data is accomplished (no map matching). The (limited) guidance feature then only indicates:

the straight line distance to the destination and the direction to the destination (as arrow).

Upon returning to the digitized map area "(Guidance in digitized map area" is continued automatically. The streets on which the vehicle might be located are determined with the aid of GPS location finding. However, temporary delays may occur for guidance.

NOTE: The road data for a number of middle European countries ((U), (S), (A), ..... ) is stored on the CD-ROM for navigation so that the message "OFF MAP" does not appear when crossing borders within the stored countries - this eliminates the necessity of inserting a special CD for the respective country.
