Pinpoint Test F: DTC B2A20

Normal Operation

When the Remote Function Actuator (RFA) receives input from the driver to start the engine, the RFA (Remote Function Actuator) module will send battery voltage to the One-Touch Integrated Start (OTIS) diode in the Battery Junction Box (BJB) and to the PCM along circuit CDC35 (BU/WH). From the OTIS (One-Touch Integrated Start) diode, the voltage is sent to the starter relay, the Smart Junction Box (SJB) and the PCM along circuit CE336 (GN/WH).

- DTC B2A20 (Ignition Stuck in START)- When the SJB (Smart Junction Box) detects voltage on circuit CE336 (GN/WH) for more than 30 seconds or during a self-test, DTC B2A20 will be set.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Wiring, terminals or connectors

- Starter relay

- SJB (Smart Junction Box)

- PCM

PINPOINT TEST F : DTC B2A20

NOTICE: Use the Flex Probe Kit for all test connections to prevent damage to the wiring terminals. Do not use standard multi-meter probes.

F1 CHECK THE RFA (Remote Function Actuator) MODULE FOR DTCs

- Connect the scan tool.

- Ignition OFF.

- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Self Test- RFA (Remote Function Actuator) Module.

Are any DTCs retrieved?

Yes
CORRECT any RFA (Remote Function Actuator) module DTCs before diagnosing DTC B2A20. REFER to the Master DTC Chart in Body Control Systems. Master DTC Index

No
GO to F2.

F2 CHECK THE PCM START CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE

- Disconnect: OTIS (One-Touch Integrated Start) Diode.

- Disconnect: PCM C175B.

- Disconnect: Starter Relay.

- Measure the voltage between the OTIS (One-Touch Integrated Start) diode, circuit CE336 (GN/WH), output side and ground.

Is any voltage present?

Yes
REPAIR circuit CE336 (GN/WH). CLEAR the DTC. REPEAT the self-test.

No
GO to F3.

F3 CHECK FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE FROM THE PCM

- Connect: PCM C175B.

- Measure the voltage between the OTIS (One-Touch Integrated Start) diode, circuit CE336 (GN/WH), output side and ground.

Is any voltage present?

Yes
INSTALL a new PCM. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

No
GO to F4.

F4 CHECK FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE FROM THE STARTER RELAY

- Connect: Starter Relay.

- Measure the voltage between the OTIS (One-Touch Integrated Start) diode, circuit CE336 (GN/WH), output side and ground.

Is any voltage present?

Yes
GO to F5.

No
GO to F6.

F5 ISOLATE THE STARTER RELAY

- Connect: Starter Relay.

- Carry out the relay component test.

Is the relay OK?

Yes
GO to F6.

No
INSTALL a new starter relay. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

F6 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB (Smart Junction Box) OPERATION

- Disconnect: All SJB (Smart Junction Box) Connections.

- Check the SJB (Smart Junction Box) connections for:
- corrosion.
- pushed-out pins.
- spread terminals.

- Connect: All SJB (Smart Junction Box) Connections (make sure they are seated correctly).

- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?

Yes
INSTALL a new SJB (Smart Junction Box). CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
