Halfshaft - RH

Special Tool(s):

Removal
1. Remove the front tire and wheel.

2. NOTE: Apply the brake to keep the halfshaft from rotating.

Remove and discard the front wheel hub nut.

3. Remove the front and rear lower control arm nuts.

4. NOTE: Once pressure is applied to the ball joint with the special tool, it may be necessary to tap the wheel knuckle at the ball joint area to separate the ball joint from the wheel knuckle.

Using the special tool, disconnect the 2 ball joints.

5. Using the special tool, separate the halfshaft from the wheel hub.

6. CAUTION: When the lower ball joint is separated from the wheel knuckle, the lower arm may strike the outer constant velocity (CY) joint boot with enough force to damage the boot clamp. This will result in a loss of grease from the outer CV joint. Place a block of wood, or similar item, between the lower arm and the outer CV joint to prevent the lower arm from striking the outer CV joint.

Remove the bolt connecting the damper fork to the lower control arm.

7. Remove the bolt retaining the brake caliper hose.

8. Remove the lower control arm bolt and nut.

9. NOTE: Support the knuckle with a suitable jack stand.

Pull the knuckle outboard and rotate it toward the rear of the vehicle.

18. To separate the halfshaft, clamp the intermediate shaft in a soft-jawed vise in the area shown.

19. With the intermediate shaft secured in the vise, use a brass drift to strike the right side halfshaft in the indicated area.

20. Remove and discard the circlip from the stub shaft.

Installation

1. Install a new stub shaft circlip.

2. NOTE: Pull the right side shaft outward to make sure the circlip is locked.
