Halfshaft - LH
Halfshaft - LHSpecial Tool(s):
Removal
1. Remove the front tire and wheel.
2. NOTE: Apply the brake to keep the halfshaft from rotating.
Remove and discard the front wheel hub nut.
3. Remove the front and rear lower control arm nuts.
4. NOTE: Once pressure is applied to the ball joint with the special tool, it may be necessary to tap the wheel knuckle at the ball joint area to separate the ball joint from the wheel knuckle.
Using the special tool, disconnect the 2 ball joints.
5. Using the special tool, separate the halfshaft from the wheel hub.
6. CAUTION: When the lower ball joint is separated from the wheel knuckle, the lower arm may strike the outer constant velocity (CY) joint boot with enough force to damage the boot clamp. This will result in a loss of grease from the outer CV joint. Place a block of wood, or similar item, between the lower arm and the outer CV joint to prevent the lower arm from striking the outer CV joint.
Remove the bolt connecting the damper fork to the lower control arm.
7. Remove the bolt retaining the brake caliper hose.
8. NOTE: Support the knuckle with a suitable jack stand.
Pull the knuckle outboard and rotate it toward the rear of the vehicle.
9. Remove the lower control arm bolt and nut.
10. Remove the lower control arm-to-subframe bolt.
Remove the lower control arm.
11. Remove the 4 pushpins and position the splash shield aside.
12. CAUTION: The sharp edges on the stub shaft splines can slice or puncture the oil seal. Use care when inserting the stub shaft into the transmission.
Using the special tools remove the halfshaft from the transmission.
13. Remove and discard the circlip from the stub shaft.
Installation
1. Install a new stub shaft circlip.
2. Insert the halfshaft into the wheel hub.
3. NOTE: After insertion, pull the halfshaft inner end to make sure the circlip is locked.
Push the stub shaft into the transmission so the circlip locks into the differential side gear.
4. Install the splash shield and pushpins.
5. Rotate the knuckle into position.
6. Install the lower control arm bolt and nut
