Cautionary Points When Repairing the Rear Bumper Cover (For Vehicles With the Rear Pre-Crash Safety System)
CAUTIONARY POINTS WHEN REPAIRING THE REAR BUMPER COVER (for vehicles with the Rear Pre-Crash Safety System)
NOTE: Always make sure to always conduct the given works when repairing the Rear Bumper Cover. The performance of the Rear Pre-Crash Safety System cannot be guaranteed if these works are not conducted.
1. REPAINTING (for vehicles painted in metallic paints 1F2, 4T1 and 6V0)
a. In cases where it is obvious that it is the first time that the vehicle has been repaired, it is possible to repaint using a standard paint layering structure without conducting maintenance (target: base coat of 20 - 30 mm) Make sure to conduct maintenance in (c) for each of the cases.
- If you are unsure of whether it is the first time that the bumper cover has been refinished.
- Refinished over two times (including repainting).
- Apply a thick coat (over 50 mm)
b. When fixing paint defects from repainting, it is possible to paint two to three times using a standard layering structure (base 20 - 30 mm and a clear coat of 40 - 50 mm), but conduct a maintenance check each time to determine whether the surface can be repainted or conduct a maintenance check after repainting is completed. (Each inspection method refers to the applicable service procedures.)
NOTE:
- There is a possibility that the performance of rear Pre Crash Safety System cannot be ensured if a sensor function check is not conducted before refinishing.
- The sensor function check is only made to determine if the area can be refinished or not. Make sure to conduct a sensor function check before refinishing.
HINT: Target paint thickness (black and white concealment)
2. MAINTENANCE METHOD (for all vehicles with rear milliwave)
a. Maintenance and Adjustment Pattern
- There are three different patterns of repair procedures depending on whether or not the sensor and rear bumper need to be replaced.
- One to four different maintenance and adjustment works are required based on the extent of the damage.
Heavy Damage (cases where both the sensor and the bumper need to be replaced)
Medium to Light Damage (cases where the bumper is damaged and it is not known if there is damage to the sensor)
When Replacing the Bumper
When Repairing the Bumper
3. INSPECTION PROCEDURE PERFORM REAR BUMPER COVER REPLACEMENT, PAINTING OR REPAIR (METALLIC TYPE PAINT ONLY)
NOTE: The rear millimeter wave radar sensor may or may not operate properly depending on the painted areas around the sensor. When replacing, applying paint to, or repairing the rear bumper cover, follow the procedures in the table .
