AA80F Automatic Transmission

AA80F AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION: AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SYSTEM: P0985, P0986: Shift Solenoid "E" Control Circuit Low (Shift Solenoid Valve SR)
P0986 - Shift Solenoid "E" Control Circuit High (Shift Solenoid Valve SR)

DESCRIPTION

Based on the on-off combinations of the SL1, 2, 3, 4 and 5, SLT, SLU, SL and SR solenoids, the TCM performs gear shifts from 1st gear to 8th gear. If a circuit related to a solenoid valve is open or shorted, the TCM uses the fail-safe function to turn other solenoid valves on or off. If all solenoid valves are malfunctioning, only the mechanical fluid pressure circuit will function and the system will change to a manual transmission. If an open or short has occurred, the TCM cuts power to the malfunctioning solenoid valve.

MONITOR DESCRIPTION

These DTCs indicate an open or short in the shift solenoid valve SR circuit. When there is an open or short circuit in any shift solenoid valve circuit, the TCM detects the problem, illuminates the MIL and stores the DTC. When shift solenoid valve SR is on, if its resistance is 8 Ohms or less, the TCM determines that there is a short in the shift solenoid valve SR circuit.

When the shift solenoid valve SR is off, if its resistance is 100 kOhms or higher, the TCM determines that there is an open circuit in the shift solenoid valve SR circuit Fail-Safe Chart.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

NOTICE:
Perform the universal trip to clear permanent DTCs AA80F Automatic Transmission System.

PROCEDURE

1. CHECK HARNESS AND TRANSMISSION WIRE (TRANSMISSION WIRE - TCM, TRANSMISSION WIRE (SHIFT SOLENOID VALVE SR))

(a) Disconnect the E7 TCM connector.

(b) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Resistance:

NG -- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (TRANSMISSION WIRE - TCM)
OK -- Continue to next step.

2. REPLACE TCM

(a) Replace the TCM Removal.

NEXT -- PERFORM A/T CODE REGISTRATION Registration

3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (TRANSMISSION WIRE - TCM)

(a) Disconnect the E50 transmission wire connector.

(b) Disconnect the E7 TCM connector.

(c) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Resistance:

NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- Continue to next step.

4. INSPECT SHIFT SOLENOID VALVE SR

(a) Remove shift solenoid valve SR Disassembly.

(b) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Resistance:

(c) Connect the battery's positive (+) lead to the terminal of the solenoid valve connector, and the negative (-) lead to the solenoid body. Then check that the valve moves and makes an operating noise.

OK:

Valve moves and makes operating noise.

NG -- REPLACE SHIFT SOLENOID VALVE SR Disassembly

OK -- REPAIR OR REPLACE TRANSMISSION WIRE Removal
