CAN COMMUNICATION: CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM: Open in One Side of CAN Branch Line
- Open in One Side of CAN Branch Line
DESCRIPTION
If there is an open in one of the CAN branch lines for an ECU or sensor connected to the CAN communication system, this may affect the ECUs and sensors with normal CAN branch lines, resulting in communication errors between normal ECUs and sensors.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
NOTICE:
* Because the order of diagnosis is important to allow correct diagnosis, make sure to begin troubleshooting using How to Proceed with Troubleshooting when CAN communication system related DTCs are output How to Proceed With Troubleshooting.
* After performing repairs, perform the procedure listed in DTC Reproduction Method and confirm that the DTCs are not output again.
* DTC Reproduction Method: Turn the engine switch on (IG), wait at least 60 seconds, and then drive the vehicle at a speed of 60 km/h (38 mph) or more for at least 2 seconds.
* After the repair, perform CAN Bus Check and check that all the ECUs and sensors connected to the CAN communication system are displayed Diagnosis System.
PROCEDURE
1. CHECK FOR OPEN IN ONE SIDE OF CAN BRANCH LINE
(a) Confirm the systems (ECUs and sensors), which use CAN communication, equipped on the vehicle Diagnosis System.
(b) Using the Techstream, select and perform "CAN Bus Check" Diagnosis System.
(c) Observe the screen for approximately 1 minute to check the ECUs and sensors that are not displayed on the screen and also those that repeatedly appear and disappear from the screen.
(d) Disconnect the branch line connectors, which are connected to the ECUs or sensors that are not displayed on the screen, from the CAN J/C.

* Connecting locations of the connectors shown in the above tables are those of a vehicle whose connector locations have never been changed.
* If the connector locations differ from those shown in the above tables, identify each connector according to the color of the bus lines.
(e) Check that the ECUs and sensors, which repeatedly appeared and disappeared from the "CAN Bus Check" screen, are constantly displayed.
(f) Perform the communication stop mode check for the ECUs and sensors which correspond to the disconnected branch line connectors Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures.
