How To Proceed With Troubleshooting





ENGINE IMMOBILISER: ENGINE IMMOBILISER SYSTEM: HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING

HINT
* Use these procedures to troubleshoot the engine immobiliser system.
* The Techstream should be used in steps 3, 4 and 6.

1. VEHICLE BROUGHT TO WORKSHOP

NEXT -- Continue to next step.

2. CRANK ENGINE FOR MORE THAN 10 SECONDS

NEXT -- Continue to next step.

3. INSPECT COMMUNICATION FUNCTION MULTIPLEX COMMUNICATION SYSTEM (BEAN)

(a) Use the Techstream to check for normal function of the multiplex communication system (BEAN).

(1) (ECU connected, communication line malfunctioning) Without code outputs, proceed to A.

(2) (ECU connected, communication line malfunctioning) With code outputs, proceed to B.

B -- Go to MULTIPLEX COMMUNICATION SECTION
A -- Continue to next step.

4. CHECK FOR DTC

(a) Check for DTCs and note any codes that are output Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

(b) Delete the DTC.

(c) Recheck for DTCs. Based on the DTCs output above, try to duplicate the SFI system DTC or engine immobiliser system DTC by simulating the symptoms indicated by the DTC.

Result:





B -- Go to SFI SYSTEM

C -- Go to DTC chart
A -- Continue to next step.

5. PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE

(a) If the fault is not listed on the problem symptoms table, proceed to A.

(b) If the fault is listed on the problem symptoms table, proceed to B.

B -- Go to step 7
A -- Continue to next step.

6. OVERALL ANALYSIS AND TROUBLESHOOTING

(a) DATA LIST/ACTIVE TEST Engine Immobilizer System.

(b) Terminals of ECU Engine Immobilizer System.

NEXT -- Continue to next step.

7. ADJUST, REPAIR OR REPLACE

NEXT -- Continue to next step.

8. CONFIRMATION TEST

NEXT -- END
