Disassembly

DRIVE SHAFT / PROPELLER SHAFT: FRONT DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY: DISASSEMBLY

1. SEPARATE FRONT NO. 2 AXLE INBOARD JOINT BOOT CLAMP LH

(a) For one touch type:

(1) Using a screwdriver, release the staked part of the front No. 2 axle inboard joint boot clamp LH and separate the front No. 2 axle inboard joint boot clamp LH as shown in the illustration.

(b) For claw engagement type:

(1) Using needle-nose pliers, disengage the 2 claws and remove the front No. 2 axle inboard joint boot clamp LH as shown in the illustration.

2. SEPARATE FRONT NO. 2 AXLE INBOARD JOINT BOOT CLAMP RH

HINT
Use the same procedure as for the LH side.

3. SEPARATE FRONT AXLE INBOARD JOINT BOOT CLAMP LH

(a) For one touch type:

(1) Using a screwdriver, remove the front axle inboard joint boot clamp LH as shown in the illustration.

(b) For claw engagement type:

(1) Using needle-nose pliers, remove the front axle inboard joint boot clamp LH as shown in the illustration.

4. SEPARATE FRONT AXLE INBOARD JOINT BOOT CLAMP RH

HINT
Use the same procedure as for the LH side.

5. SEPARATE FRONT AXLE INBOARD JOINT BOOT (for LH Side)

(a) Separate the front axle inboard joint boot from the front drive inboard joint assembly LH.

6. SEPARATE FRONT AXLE INBOARD JOINT BOOT (for RH Side)

HINT
Use the same procedure as for the LH side.

7. REMOVE FRONT DRIVE INBOARD JOINT ASSEMBLY LH

(a) Remove the old grease from the front drive inboard joint assembly LH.

(b) Put matchmarks on the front drive inboard joint assembly LH and front axle outboard joint shaft assembly LH.

NOTICE:
Do not use a punch for the marks.

(c) Remove the front drive inboard joint assembly LH from the front axle outboard joint shaft assembly LH.

(d) Secure the front axle outboard joint shaft assembly LH in a vise using aluminum plates.

(e) Using a snap ring expander, remove the shaft snap ring from the front axle outboard joint shaft assembly LH.

NOTICE:
Do not overtighten the vise.

(f) Put matchmarks on the front axle outboard joint shaft assembly LH and tripod joint.

NOTICE:
Do not use a punch for the marks.

(g) Using a brass bar and a hammer, tap out the tripod joint from the front axle outboard joint shaft assembly LH.

NOTICE:
* Do not tap the rollers.
* Do not drop the tripod joint.

8. REMOVE FRONT DRIVE INBOARD JOINT ASSEMBLY RH

HINT
Use the same procedure as for the LH side.

9. REMOVE FRONT AXLE INBOARD JOINT BOOT (for LH Side)

(a) Remove the No. 2 front axle inboard joint boot clamp LH, front axle inboard joint boot and front axle inboard joint boot clamp LH.

10. REMOVE FRONT AXLE INBOARD JOINT BOOT (for RH Side)

HINT
Perform the same procedure as for the LH side.

11. REMOVE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT DAMPER CLAMP LH

(a) For one touch type:

(1) Using a screwdriver, release the staked part of the front drive shaft damper clamp LH and separate the front drive shaft damper clamp LH as shown in the illustration.

(b) For claw engagement type:

(1) Using needle-nose pliers, disengage the 2 claws and remove the front drive shaft damper clamp LH as shown in the illustration.

12. REMOVE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT DAMPER CLAMP RH

Use the same procedure as for the LH side.

13. REMOVE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT DAMPER LH

(a) Remove the front drive shaft damper LH from the front axle outboard joint shaft assembly LH.

14. REMOVE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT DAMPER RH

HINT
Use the same procedure as for the LH side.

15. REMOVE FRONT NO. 2 AXLE OUTBOARD JOINT BOOT CLAMP LH

(a) Using a screwdriver, release the staked part of the front No. 2 axle outboard joint boot clamp LH and separate the front No. 2 axle outboard joint boot clamp LH as shown in the illustration.

16. REMOVE FRONT NO. 2 AXLE OUTBOARD JOINT BOOT CLAMP RH

HINT
Use the same procedure as for the LH side.

17. REMOVE FRONT AXLE OUTBOARD JOINT BOOT CLAMP LH

(a) Using a screwdriver, remove the front axle outboard joint boot clamp LH as shown in the illustration.

18. REMOVE FRONT AXLE OUTBOARD JOINT BOOT CLAMP RH

HINT
Use the same procedure as for the LH side.

19. REMOVE FRONT AXLE OUTBOARD JOINT BOOT (for LH Side)

(a) Remove the front axle outboard joint boot clamp LH, front axle outboard joint boot and front No. 2 axle outboard joint boot clamp LH from the front axle outboard joint shaft assembly LH.

(b) Remove the old grease from the outboard joint.

20. REMOVE FRONT AXLE OUTBOARD JOINT BOOT (for RH Side)

HINT
Use the same procedure as for the LH side.

21. REMOVE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT DUST COVER LH (for LH Side)

(a) Using SST and a press, remove the front drive shaft dust cover LH from the front drive inboard joint assembly LH.

Do not drop the front drive inboard joint assembly LH.

22. REMOVE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT DUST COVER RH (for RH Side)

(a) Using a press, remove the front drive shaft dust cover RH from the front drive inboard joint assembly RH.

NOTICE:
Do not drop the front drive inboard joint assembly RH.

23. REMOVE DRIVE SHAFT BEARING CASE SUB-ASSEMBLY (for RH Side)

(a) Secure the drive shaft bearing case sub-assembly in a vise using aluminum plates.

NOTICE:
Do not overtighten the vise.

(b) Using a screwdriver, remove the bearing case snap ring from the drive shaft bearing case sub-assembly as shown in the illustration.

24. REMOVE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT STRAIGHT PIN (for RH Side)

(a) Remove the front drive shaft straight pin from the drive shaft bearing case.

25. REMOVE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT DUST COVER (for RH Side)

(a) Using SST and a press, remove the front drive shaft dust cover from the front drive inboard joint assembly RH.

NOTICE:
Do not drop the front drive inboard joint assembly RH.

(b) Remove the bearing bracket hole snap ring.

NOTICE:
Be careful not to drop the inboard joint assembly.

26. REMOVE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT BEARING (for RH Side)

(a) Using a snap ring expander, remove the snap ring.

(b) Using SST and a press, remove the front drive shaft bearing from the front drive inboard joint assembly RH.

NOTICE:
Do not drop the front drive inboard joint assembly RH.
