Removal
DIFFERENTIAL: DIFFERENTIAL CARRIER ASSEMBLY: REMOVAL
1. REMOVE REAR WHEEL
2. DRAIN DIFFERENTIAL OIL
(a) Using a hexagon wrench (10 mm), remove the differential filler plug and gasket.
(b) Using a hexagon wrench (10 mm), remove the differential drain plug and gasket, and drain the oil.
CAUTION:
As the differential oil is hot right after driving, allow some time for it to cool down sufficiently.
3. REMOVE EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY
for 2GR-FSE: Removal
for 1UR-FSE: Removal
4. REMOVE REAR PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY
for 2WD: Removal
for 4WD: Removal
5. REMOVE REAR DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY LH
Removal
6. REMOVE REAR DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY RH
HINT
Removal procedure of the RH side is the same as that of the LH side.
7. REMOVE REAR DIFFERENTIAL CARRIER ASSEMBLY
(a) Support the rear differential carrier assembly with a jack.
NOTICE:
Do not drop the differential carrier.
(b) Using a hexagon wrench (12 mm), remove the 3 hexagon bolts.
(c) Remove the 2 bolts, 2 lower differential mount stoppers and rear differential carrier assembly.
(d) Remove the 2 upper differential mount stoppers from the rear differential carrier assembly.
NOTICE:
* Slowly lower the jack and remove the rear differential carrier assembly.
* Do not drop the rear differential carrier assembly.
* Do not damage the installation surface when removing the rear differential carrier assembly.
* Residual oil may leak when the rear differential carrier assembly is removed.
