Disassembly
PROPELLER SHAFT: PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY: DISASSEMBLY
1. REMOVE PROPELLER INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY
(a) Place matchmarks on the intermediate shaft and propeller shaft.
(b) Separate the intermediate shaft and propeller shaft.
NOTICE:
Wrap tape around the spline to prevent the spline from damaging the dust boot.
2. REMOVE CENTER NO. 1 SUPPORT BEARING ASSEMBLY
(a) Using a snap ring expander, remove the snap ring.

(b) Using SST and a press, press out the center support bearing and No. 1 dust deflector.

3. INSPECT PROPELLER INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY
(a) Using a dial indicator, measure the intermediate shaft runout.
Maximum runout:
0.8 mm (0.031 in.)
(a) If the shaft runout is greater than the maximum, replace the shaft.
4. INSPECT PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY
(a) Using a dial indicator, measure the propeller shaft runout.
Maximum runout:
0.8 mm (0.031 in.)
(a) If the shaft runout is greater than the maximum, replace the shaft.
5. INSPECT SPIDER BEARING
(a) Check if the spider bearing rotates smoothly.
(b) Check if there is any play in the spider bearing.
If necessary, replace the propeller shaft.
6. INSPECT CENTER NO. 1 SUPPORT BEARING ASSEMBLY
(a) Turn the center support bearing by hand in the rotating direction. Check that the center support bearing turns smoothly.
(b) Check that the seals are not cracked or damaged.
HINT
If the center support bearing is damaged, worn, or does not turn smoothly, replace it.
