Oil Pump

A761E AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION: OIL PUMP: INSPECTION

1. INSPECT FRONT OIL PUMP BODY SUB-ASSEMBLY

(a) Using a caliper gauge, measure the inside diameter of the oil pump body bush.

Maximum inside diameter:

38.138 mm (1.5015 in.)

(a) If the inside diameter is greater than the maximum, replace the oil pump body sub-assembly.

2. INSPECT STATOR SHAFT ASSEMBLY

(a) Using a caliper gauge, measure the inside diameter of the stator shaft bush.

Maximum inside diameter:

Front side
21.527 mm (0.8475 in.)

Rear side
32.03 mm (1.261 in.)

(a) If the inside diameter is greater than the maximum, replace the stator shaft assembly.

3. INSPECT CLEARANCE OF OIL PUMP ASSEMBLY

(a) Push the driven gear to one side of the body.

(b) Using a feeler gauge, measure the clearance between the driven gear and pump body.

Standard body clearance:

0.10 to 0.17 mm (0.0039 to 0.0067 in.)

(b) If the body clearance is not as specified, replace the drive gear, driven gear and pump body.

(c) Using a feeler gauge, measure the clearance between the driven gear teeth and drive gear teeth.

Standard tip clearance:

0.070 to 0.150 mm (0.0028 to 0.0059 in.)

(c) If the tip clearance is not as specified, replace the drive gear, driven gear and pump body.

(d) Using a steel straightedge and feeler gauge, measure the clearance between both gears and straightedge.

Standard side clearance:

0.03 to 0.05 mm (0.0012 to 0.002 in.)

(d) If the side clearance is not as specified, replace the drive gear, driven gear and pump body.

HINT
There are 7 different thicknesses for the drive and driven gears.

Standard drive and driven gears thickness:

4. INSPECT OIL PUMP DRIVE GEAR ROTATION

(a) Place the oil pump assembly on the torque converter clutch.

(b) Make sure that the drive gear rotates smoothly.
