Meter / Gauge System
METER: METER / GAUGE SYSTEM: ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION
1. CHECK SPEEDOMETER
(a) Check the operation.
(1) Using a speedometer tester, check the speedometer for the allowable indication error and proper operation of the odometer.
NOTICE:
Do not use worn, underinflated or overinflated tires, as the speedometer reading will be inaccurate.
(b) Check the deflection width of the speedometer indicator.
Reference:
Below 0.5 km/h (0.3 mph)
(b) If the result is not as specified, the speedometer may have a malfunction.
2. CHECK OUTPUT SIGNAL OF VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR
(a) Check the output signal waveform.
(1) Remove the combination meter, but do not disconnect the connector.
(2) Using an oscilloscope, check the signal waveform of the combination meter.
OK:
Waveform is as shown in the illustration.
HINT
As vehicle speed increases, the wavelength shortens.
If the result is not as specified, the speedometer may have a malfunction.
3. CHECK TACHOMETER
(a) Check the operation.
(1) Connect a tune-up test tachometer, and start the engine.
NOTICE:
* Reversing the connection of the tachometer will damage the transistors and the insides of the diodes.
* When removing or installing the tachometer, be careful not to drop or subject it to hard impacts.
(2) Compare the result of the test with the standard indication.
°°
4. CHECK FUEL RECEIVER GAUGE
