THEFT DETERRENT: THEFT DETERRENT SYSTEM: SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
1. DESCRIPTION
The system sounds the horns and flashes the lights in order to deter vehicle tampering. This system detects tampering with the vehicle if: 1) vehicle is forcibly entered, 2) engine hood is forcibly opened, 3) doors are unlocked without the use of a key, or 4) the cable from the battery terminal is disconnected and then reconnected.
The system has an active mode and passive mode. In the active mode, the system operates normally. In the passive mode, the system begins arming even if the doors are not locked. The Techstream can switch these modes. Refer to CUSTOMIZE PARAMETERS Theft Deterrent System.

3. GENERAL OPERATION
The system has five states: disarming 1; disarming 2; arming preparation; arming; and alarm.
(a) In the disarmed 1 state, the theft deterrent system is not armed.
(b) In the disarmed 2 state, the theft deterrent system is not armed. This will be set from the arming preparation, arming and alarm states.
(c) In the arming preparation state, the theft deterrent system prepares for 30 seconds to change to the arming state.
(d) In the arming state, the theft deterrent system is armed.
(e) In the alarm state, the horns sound and the lights blink for 60 seconds. These are operated as listed below:

6. FORCED DOOR LOCK FUNCTION
The system locks the doors if any door is unlocked during the arming state. This is operated when the system is in active mode.
7. ALARM MEMORY FUNCTION
The system informs the user when the alarm has been activated. The system illuminates the taillights for 2 seconds when the alarm is canceled and the system is changed to the disarming 1 or 2 state. This function operates when the system is in active mode and passive mode.
8. PANIC ALARM FUNCTION
The system operates the alarm when the PANIC (LOCK) button of the key is pressed.
(a) The panic alarm is operated when both of the following conditions are met:
(1) The ignition switch is OFF.
(2) The PANIC (LOCK) button of the key is pressed for 2.4 seconds or more.
(b) The panic alarm is canceled when one of the following conditions is met:
(1) The ignition switch is ON.
(2) The LOCK/UNLOCK/LUGGAGE button of the key is pressed.
(3) 60 seconds elapse since alarm has begun.
(4) Door is unlocked by key.
(5) Luggage door is opened by key.
9. SECURITY INDICATOR
The security indicator illuminates or blinks to indicate the system status.
