P2006 - Intake Manifold Runner Control Stuck Closed (Bank 1)

DESCRIPTION

The Swirl Control Valve (SCV) is built into the intake manifold. The SCV consists of the position sensor and a DC motor. The SCV is attached to one side of the independent intake port. Depending on signals from the ECM, the DC motor opens and closes the SCV. The position sensor detects the opening angle of the SCV. When the SCV closes, the intake air flow velocity that will pass through the port on the other side of the independent intake port will become faster, which causes the lateral turbulence of the fuel in the fuel tank to strengthen. As a result, when engine coolant temperature is low, the fuel's atoms accelerate and the fuel's stability increases. Also, when the engine is running with a light load, the fuel efficiency increases, decreasing fuel consumption.

When the ECM has requested an SCV close operation but the SCV's actual opening angle is 20° or more for 1 second, DTC P2004 is output. When the ECM has requested an SCV open operation but the SCV's actual opening angle is less than 35° for 1 second, DTC P2006 is output.





HINT
After confirming DTCs P2004 and/or P2006, use Techstream to confirm the IAC Sensor Voltage (SCV position sensor output voltage) while performing Control the SCV Duty Ratio of the Active Test.

MONITOR DESCRIPTION

When the ECM has requested a swirl control valve close operation but the swirl control valve's actual opening angle is more than 20° for 10 seconds, DTC P2004 is output. When the ECM has requested a swirl control valve open operation but the swirl control valve's actual opening angle is less than 35° for 10 seconds, DTC P2006 is output.

CONFIRMATION DRIVING PATTERN





- Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.

- Turn the engine switch on (IG).

- Turn the Techstream on.

- Clear the DTCs (even if no DTCs are stored, perform the clear DTC procedure) DTC Check / Clear.

- Turn the engine switch off and wait for 30 seconds.

- Turn the engine switch on (IG) and turn the Techstream on [A].

- Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Data List / All Data / Coolant Temp.

HINT
- Check DTC P2004 at a coolant temperature of 30°C (86°F) or less.
- Check DTC P2006 at a coolant temperature of 80°C (176°F) or higher.
- Turn the engine switch off.

- Turn the engine switch on (IG), wait approximately 10 seconds, and then turn the engine switch off. Repeat this procedure 3 times [B].

- Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Codes / Pending.

- Read the pending DTC [C].

HINT
- If a pending DTC is output, the system is malfunctioning.
- If a pending DTC is not output, perform the following procedure.
- Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Utility / All Readiness.

- Input the DTC: P2004 or P2006.

- Check the DTC judgment result.





HINT
- If the judgment result shows ABNORMAL, the system has a malfunction.
- If the judgment result shows NORMAL, the system is normal.
- If the judgment result shows INCOMPLETE or UNKNOWN, perform the step [B] again.
- Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Utility / All Readiness.

- Check the DTC judgment result.

HINT
- If the judgment result shows ABNORMAL, the system has a malfunction.
- If the judgment result shows NORMAL, the system is normal.
- If the test result is INCOMPLETE or UNKNOWN and no pending DTC is output, perform a universal trip and check for permanent DTCs DTC Check / Clear.

HINT
- If a permanent DTC is output, the system is malfunctioning.
- If no permanent DTC is output, the system is normal.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

HINT
Read freeze frame data using Techstream. The ECM records vehicle and driving condition information as freeze frame data the moment a DTC is stored. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can be helpful in determining whether the vehicle was running or stopped, whether the engine was warmed up or not, whether the air/fuel ratio was lean or rich, as well as other data recorded at the time of a malfunction Freeze Frame Data.

PROCEDURE

1. CHECK ANY OTHER DTCS OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P2004 OR P2006)

(a) Connect Techstream to the DLC3.

(b) Turn the engine switch on (IG).

(c) Turn the tester on.

(d) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Codes.

(e) Read DTCs.

HINT
If any DTCs other than P2004 or P2006 are output, troubleshoot those DTCs first.

B -- GO TO DTC CHART
A -- Continue to next step.

2. INSPECT INTAKE MANIFOLD

(a) When the engine switch is turned from off to on (IG), check that the SCV links move.

OK:

SCV links move.

OK -- CHECK WHETHER DTC OUTPUT RECURS (DTC P2004 OR P2006)
NG -- Continue to next step.

3. INSPECT INTAKE MANIFOLD (DC MOTOR FOR SCV OPERATION)

NG -- REPLACE INTAKE MANIFOLD
OK -- Continue to next step.

4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ECM - DC MOTOR FOR SCV)

(a) Disconnect the E6 ECM connector.

(b) Disconnect the E53 DC motor for SCV connector.

(c) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard resistance (Check for open):





Standard resistance (Check for short):





(d) Reconnect the ECM connector.

(e) Reconnect the DC motor for SCV connector.

NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- Continue to next step.

5. CHECK WHETHER DTC OUTPUT RECURS (DTC P2004 OR P2006)

(a) Connect Techstream to the DLC3.

(b) Turn the engine switch on (IG).

(c) Turn the tester on.

(d) Clear DTCs.

(e) Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Codes.

(f) Read DTCs.
