P0203
4GR-FSE ENGINE CONTROL SYSTEM: SFI SYSTEM: P0200-P0206,P12FF: Injector Circuit / Open
P12FF - Electric Driver Unit
DESCRIPTION
The high speed activation of the high pressure fuel injector is possible through the high-voltage, rapid-recharge DC/DC converter. Using high pressure fuel, the atomized fuel's injection timing can be accurately controlled, which decreases emissions and fuel consumption. The steady ECM checks the injector driver movement. When the injector driver or injector has a malfunction, the injection control of the relevant cylinder is stopped or power to the injector relay is cut. Then the ECM illuminates the check engine warning light.

CONFIRMATION DRIVING PATTERN
- Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
- Turn the engine switch on (IG) and turn the Techstream on.
- Clear the DTCs (even if no DTCs are stored, perform the clear DTC procedure) DTC Check / Clear.
- Turn the engine switch off and wait for 30 seconds.
- Turn the engine switch on (IG) and turn the Techstream on [A].
- Start the engine.
- Idle the engine for 15 seconds or more [B].
- Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Codes.
- Read the DTC [C].
HINT
- If a DTC is output, the system is malfunctioning.
- If a DTC is not output, perform the following procedure.
- Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Utility / All Readiness.
- Input the DTC: P0200, P0201, P0202, P0203, P0204, P0205, P0206 or P12FF.
- Check the DTC judgment result.
HINT
- If the judgment result shows ABNORMAL, the system has a malfunction.
- If the judgment result shows NORMAL, the system is normal.
- If the judgment result shows INCOMPLETE or UNKNOWN, perform step [B] again.
- Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Utility / All Readiness.
- Check the DTC judgment result.
HINT
- If the judgment result shows ABNORMAL, the system has a malfunction.
- If the judgment result shows NORMAL, the system is normal.
- If the test result is INCOMPLETE or UNKNOWN and no DTC is output, perform a universal trip and check for permanent DTCs DTC Check / Clear.
HINT
- If a permanent DTC is output, the system is malfunctioning.
- If no permanent DTC is output, the system is normal.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
HINT
Read freeze frame data using Techstream. The ECM records vehicle and driving condition information as freeze frame data the moment a DTC is stored. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can be helpful in determining whether the vehicle was running or stopped, whether the engine was warmed up or not, whether the air/fuel ratio was lean or rich, as well as other data recorded at the time of a malfunction Freeze Frame Data.
PROCEDURE
1. INSPECT INJECTOR DRIVER (POWER SOURCE OF EDU)
(a) Disconnect the E58 injector driver (EDU) connector.
(b) Turn the engine switch on (IG).
(c) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard voltage:
(d) Reconnect the injector driver (EDU) connector.
NG -- CHECK EDU (POWER SOURCE CIRCUIT)
OK -- Continue to next step.
2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (EDU - FUEL INJECTOR)
(a) Disconnect the H1 and I1 connectors.
(b) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard resistance:
(c) Reconnect the injector driver (EDU) connector.
NG -- INSPECT FUEL INJECTOR ASSEMBLY (RESISTANCE)
OK -- Continue to next step.
3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ECM - EDU)
(a) Disconnect the E5, E3 and E6 connectors.
(b) Disconnect the E26 injector driver (EDU) connector.
(c) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard resistance (Check for open):
Standard resistance (Check for short):
(d) Reconnect the ECM connector.
(e) Reconnect the injector driver (EDU) connector.
NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- Continue to next step.
4. CHECK ECM (#10, #20, #30, #40, #50 AND #60 VOLTAGE)
(a) Connect an oscilloscope to terminals #10 to #60 and E1 of the E5, E4 and E3 ECM harness side connectors.
(b) With the engine cranking or idling, check the signal waveform.
Standard:
Signal waveform appears as shown in the illustration.
HINT
Check the waveform before the ECM detects the DTC(s) and enters the fail-safe mode, because the ECM will not indicate the output voltage any more once it enters the fail-safe mode.
NG -- REPLACE ECM Removal
OK -- Continue to next step.
5. CHECK ECM (INJF VOLTAGE)
(a) Connect an oscilloscope to terminals INJF and E1 of the E4 and E6 ECM harness side connectors.
(b) With the engine cranking or idling, check the signal waveform.
Standard:
Signal waveform appears as shown in the illustration.
HINT
Check the waveform before the ECM detects the DTC(s) and enters the fail-safe mode, because the injector driver (EDU) will not indicate the output voltage any more once it enters the fail-safe mode.
NG -- REPLACE INJECTOR DRIVER
OK -- CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS
6. INSPECT FUEL INJECTOR ASSEMBLY (RESISTANCE)
(a) Check the resistance of the fuel injector Testing and Inspection.
NG -- REPLACE FUEL INJECTOR
OK -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
