- January 28, 2010: The TSB title has been changed.
- The Loading Map Firmware onto Navigation Update Tool section of the Repair Procedure has been updated.
Any previous printed versions of this service bulletin should be discarded.
INTRODUCTION:
During the map update procedure, the following conditions may occur:
- Navigation system may continuously reboot or become inoperative.
- Navigation system will reset to map update "I agree" screen.
Updated navigation system firmware has been developed to remedy this condition. This software MUST be installed into the vehicle before performing a map update using Navigation update tool.

Loading Map Firmware onto Navigation Update Tool
NOTE
Navigation Update Tool MUST have latest "Navigation Program Installer" before performing this TSB. For installation procedure, refer to TSB2438.
1. Turn on ETAS Techstream.
2. Log into ETAS.
3. Download the "Vehicle Navigation Software Update" from ETAS.
A. Click on the TOOLS tab.
B. Click on the DIAGNOSTIC TESTER tab.
C. Click on the SOFTWARE and UPDATES tab.
D. Click on the applicable Generation 5 software version under Available Software Updates.
4. Click Save from the "File Download - Security Warning" screen and choose the desktop as the location to save this file.
5. Connect the Navigation Update Tool to the PC using the USB cable.
6. Turn the Navigation Update Tool power supply ON. Select the Navigation Program Installer and Display the Navigation Update Tool Main Menu screen on the PC.
7. Click the Load Navigation Unit Update icon.
8. Click Browse and navigate to the desktop, choose the PGM_3171.navi.
9. Click Load.
10. Verify that both the Transfer Mode Display Light (green) and Power Supply Display Light (blue) are lit, then click Continue.
11. The software will perform a connection check with the Navigation Update Tool, in the event an error is shown please recheck USB connection.
12. Navigation Firmware is ready to be loaded onto the Navigation Update Tool, click Continue.
13. Navigation Firmware will now load into the Navigation Update Tool.
14. Once the Navigation Firmware is successfully loaded onto the Navigation Update Tool, Click Continue to finish the installer.
15. Disconnect the navigation tool from the PC.
Loading Map Firmware into the Lexus Navigation System
NOTE
Engine should be OFF before starting this procedure.
1. Connect the Navigation Update Tool to vehicle. (Tool MUST be disconnected from PC).
2. Cycle ignition ON and wait for Caution screen to appear on navigation display.
3. Press MAP switch, wait for map to appear.
4. Hold down the INFO button and rotate the headlamp stalk switch on and off 3 or more times until Navigation System enters diagnostic mode.
5. Press MENU button on the upper right side of the Multi-display screen.
6. Press Program Update button.
7. Press the OK button.
NOTE
Wait time for program to load is between 5 and 15 minutes.
8. When ECU selection screen appears, confirm the current version is less than the NEW version. If yes then press the Select button.
If current version is greater than or equal to the new version then the update is NOT applicable to this vehicle.
9. When EMV-N screen is shown press OK.
10. After about 1 minute, if the update was successful the display will indicate "Updating Complete" at the top of the screen, press OK to continue.
11. Confirm the Current Version reads "3171", press End to complete the procedure.
NOTE
If Current Version is not "3171" then turn ignition off and start again at step 1 of programming procedure.
12. Press Yes.
13. Cycle the Ignition Off to finish the updating procedure.
14. Cycle the Ignition ON and confirm normal Navigation System operation.
15. Update is complete. Verify operation of Navigation System.
16. Please refer to TSB 2537 "HDD NAVIGATION MAP UPDATE PROCESS" to update HDD map data.
