C1440

BRAKE CONTROL: ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLLED BRAKE SYSTEM: C1440/98: Steering Angle Sensor Unusual Bank Angle Detected

DTC C1440/98 - Steering Angle Sensor Unusual Bank Angle Detected

DESCRIPTION

The skid control ECU receives signals from the yaw rate and acceleration sensor via the CAN communication system.
The yaw rate sensor has a built-in acceleration sensor and detects the vehicle condition.
If there is trouble in the bus lines between the yaw rate and acceleration sensor and the CAN communication system, DTCs U0123/62 (malfunction in CAN communication with the yaw rate sensor) and U0124/95 (malfunction in CAN communication with the acceleration sensor) are output.

WIRING DIAGRAM

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
NOTICE:
- When replacing the skid control ECU, perform initialization of linear solenoid valve and calibration Programming and Relearning.
- Before proceeding with the inspection, explain to the customer that the vehicle driving record shows that the vehicle was driven on a bank at an angle of 30°, and confirm if this condition occurred.
HINT: When DTC U0123/62, U0124/95 and/or U126/63 is output together with DTC C1440/98, inspect and repair the trouble areas indicated by DTC U0123/62, U0124/95 and/or U0126/63 first U0073.

PROCEDURE

1. CHECK FOR DTC
(a) Clear the DTCs Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.
(b) Turn the engine switch off.
(c) Turn the engine switch on (IG) and check that no CAN communication system DTCs are output Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.
(d) Drive the vehicle at a speed of 30 km/h (19 mph) or more, turn the steering wheel, and decelerate (depress the brake pedal) the vehicle and check that no yaw rate and acceleration sensor DTCs are output Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

Result

HINT: DTC C1440/98 may have been stored because the vehicle was driven on a bank at an angle of 30° or more.

D -- CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS
C -- REPAIR CIRCUITS INDICATED BY OUTPUT DTCS
B -- INSPECT CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM
A -- Continue to next step.

2. CHECK YAW RATE AND ACCELERATION SENSOR INSTALLATION
(a) Turn the engine switch off.
(b) Check that the yaw rate and acceleration sensor has been installed properly Removal.
OK:
The sensor is tightened to the specified torque.
The sensor is not installed in a tilted position.
NG -- INSTALL YAW RATE AND ACCELERATION SENSOR CORRECTLY
OK -- REPLACE SKID CONTROL ECU
