AA80E Automatic Transmission: Automatic Transmission System

AA80E AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION: AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SYSTEM: P0985: Shift Solenoid "E" Control Circuit Low (Shift Solenoid Valve SR)

DTC P0985 - Shift Solenoid "E" Control Circuit Low (Shift Solenoid Valve SR)

DTC P0986 - Shift Solenoid "E" Control Circuit High (Shift Solenoid Valve SR)

DESCRIPTION

Based on the ON-OFF combinations of the SL1, 2, 3, 4 and 5, SLT, SLU, SL and SR solenoids, the TCM performs gear shifts from 1st gear to 8th gear. If a line related to a solenoid valve is open or shorted, the TCM uses the fail-safe function to turn other solenoid valves ON or OFF. If all solenoid valves are malfunctioning, only the mechanical fluid pressure circuit will function and the system will change to a manual transmission. If an open or short has occurred, the TCM cuts power to the malfunctioning solenoid valve.

MONITOR DESCRIPTION

These DTCs indicate an open or short in the shift solenoid valve SR circuit. When there is an open or short circuit in any shift solenoid valve circuit, the TCM detects the problem, illuminates the MIL and stores the DTC. When the shift solenoid valve SR is ON, if resistance is 8 Ohms or less, the TCM determines there is a short in the shift solenoid valve SR circuit.
When the shift solenoid valve SR is OFF, if resistance is 100 kOhms or more, the TCM determines there is an open in the shift solenoid valve SR circuit Fail-Safe Chart.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

PROCEDURE

1. CHECK HARNESS AND TRANSMISSION WIRE (TRANSMISSION WIRE - TCM, TRANSMISSION WIRE (SHIFT SOLENOID VALVE SR))

(a) Disconnect the TCM connector.
(b) Measure the resistance of the wire harness side connector.
Standard resistance:

NG -- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (TRANSMISSION WIRE - TCM)
OK -- Continue to next step.

2. REPLACE TCM
(a) Replace the TCM Removal.
NEXT -- PERFORM A/T CODE REGISTRATION
3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (TRANSMISSION WIRE - TCM)

(a) Disconnect the transmission wire connector.
(b) Disconnect the TCM connector.
(c) Measure the resistance of the wire harness side connectors.
Standard resistance:

NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- Continue to next step.

4. INSPECT SHIFT SOLENOID VALVE SR

(a) Remove the shift solenoid valve SR Disassembly.
(b) Measure the resistance of the shift solenoid valve.
Standard resistance:

(c) Connect the battery's positive (+) lead to the terminal of the solenoid valve connector, and the negative (-) lead to the solenoid body. Then check that the valve moves and makes an operating sound.
OK:
Valve moves and makes operating sound.
NG -- REPLACE SHIFT SOLENOID VALVE SR
OK -- REPAIR OR REPLACE TRANSMISSION WIRE
