Component Tests and General Diagnostics
PROPELLER SHAFT: REAR PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY (for 2WD): INSPECTION
1. INSPECT FLEXIBLE COUPLING
(a) Check the front and rear flexible couplings for cracks or damage.
(b) Inspect the flexible coupling centering bushings.
HINT:
If a bushing is damaged, replace the rear propeller shaft assembly.
2. INSPECT PROPELLER INTERMEDIATE SHAFT (for 2GR-FSE)
(a) Using a dial indicator, measure the runout of the intermediate shaft.
Maximum runout:
0.8 mm (0.031 in.)
NOTICE:
The dial indicator must be set at a right angle to the center of the intermediate shaft.
If the shaft runout exceeds the maximum, replace the intermediate shaft.
3. INSPECT PROPELLER INTERMEDIATE SHAFT (for 1UR-FSE)
(a) Using a dial indicator, measure the runout of the intermediate shaft.
Maximum runout:
0.3 mm (0.012 in.)
NOTICE:
The dial indicator must be set at a right angle to the center of the intermediate shaft.
If the shaft runout exceeds the maximum, replace the rear propeller shaft assembly.
4. INSPECT PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY (for 2GR-FSE)
(a) Using a dial indicator, measure the runout of the propeller shaft.
Maximum runout:
0.8 mm (0.031 in.)
NOTICE:
The dial indicator must be set at a right angle to the center of the propeller shaft.
If the shaft runout exceeds the maximum, replace the propeller shaft.
5. INSPECT PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY (for 1UR-FSE)
(a) Using a dial indicator, measure the runout of the propeller shaft.
Maximum runout:
0.3 mm (0.012 in.)
NOTICE:
The dial indicator must be set at a right angle to the center of the propeller shaft.
If the shaft runout exceeds the maximum, replace the rear propeller shaft assembly.
6. INSPECT UNIVERSAL JOINT SPIDER ASSEMBLY
(a) Check that the spider bearing rotates smoothly.
(b) Check that there is no play in the spider bearing.
If necessary, replace the rear propeller shaft assembly.
7. INSPECT NO. 1 CENTER SUPPORT BEARING ASSEMBLY
(a) Turn the center support bearing by hand in the rotating direction.
(b) Check that the center support bearing turns smoothly, and check that the seals are not cracked or damaged.
If the center support bearing is damaged or worn, or does not turn smoothly, replace it.
