Wiring Harness: Service and Repair

TRANSMISSION WIRE

COMPONENTS:

REMOVAL
1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.

2. DRAIN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID
(a) Remove the drain plug and gasket, and drain the ATF.
(b) Install a new gasket and the drain plug.
Torque: 20 N*m (204 kgf*cm, 15 ft.*lbf)

3. REMOVE NO. 1 EXHAUST PIPE SUPPORT BRACKET SUB-ASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the 4 bolts, 2 nuts and bracket.
4. REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION OIL PAN SUB-ASSEMBLY

NOTICE: Some fluid will remain in the oil pan.

(a) Remove the 20 bolts, oil pan and gasket.

(b) Remove the 3 magnets from the oil pan.
(c) Examine the particles in the pan.
(1) Collect any steel chips with the removed magnets.
Carefully look at the foreign objects and particles in the pan and on the magnets to guess the type of wear which might be found in the transmission.
Steel (magnetic): bearing, gear and clutch plate wear
Brass (non-magnetic): bush wear

5. REMOVE VALVE BODY OIL STRAINER ASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the 4 bolts and oil strainer.

NOTICE: Be careful as some fluid will come out of the oil strainer.

(b) Remove the O-ring from the oil strainer.

6. REMOVE TRANSMISSION WIRE
(a) Remove the bolt, lock plate and ATF temperature sensor.

(b) Remove the 2 bolts and disconnect the 2 clamps.

(c) Disconnect the 9 connectors from the solenoid valves.
(d) Disconnect the transmission wire connector.

(e) Remove the bolt and pull out the transmission wire.

(f) Remove the O-ring from the transmission wire.

INSPECTION

1. INSPECT TRANSMISSION WIRE
(a) Measure the resistance of the transmission wire.

Standard resistance:

HINT: If the resistance is not within the specified range of either of the ATF temperatures shown in the table, the driveability of the vehicle may decrease.

Standard resistance:

INSTALLATION

1. INSTALL TRANSMISSION WIRE
(a) Coat a new O-ring with ATF and install it to the transmission wire.

(b) Install the transmission wire with the bolt.
Torque: 5.4 N*m (55 kgf*cm, 48 in.*lbf)
(c) Connect the transmission wire connector.

2. CONNECT TRANSMISSION WIRE
(a) Connect the 9 connectors to the solenoid valves.

(b) Install the 2 clamps with the 2 bolts.
Torque:
6.4 N*m (65 kgf*cm, 57 in.*lbf) for bolt A
10 N*m (102 kgf*cm, 7 ft.*lbf) for bolt B

(c) Install the ATF temperature sensor and lock plate with the bolt.
Torque: 10 N*m (102 kgf*cm, 7 ft.*lbf)
3. INSTALL VALVE BODY OIL STRAINER ASSEMBLY
(a) Coat a new O-ring with ATF.

(b) Install the O-ring.

(c) Install the oil strainer with the 4 bolts.
Torque: 10 N*m (102 kgf*cm, 7 ft.*lbf)

4. INSTALL AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION OIL PAN SUB-ASSEMBLY
(a) Install the 3 magnets in the oil pan.

(b) Install a new gasket and the oil pan to the transmission case with the 20 bolts.
Torque: 4.4 N*m (45 kgf*cm, 39 in.*lbf)

5. INSTALL NO. 1 EXHAUST PIPE SUPPORT BRACKET SUB-ASSEMBLY
(a) Install the bracket with the 4 bolts and 2 nuts.
Torque: 43 N*m (438 kgf*cm, 32 ft.*lbf)
6. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
7. ADD AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID
(a) Add automatic transmission fluid.
8. PERFORM INITIALIZATION
(a) Perform initialization.

NOTICE: Certain systems need to be initialized after disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
