FLOOR SHIFT ASSEMBLY

ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION
1. INSPECT SHIFT LEVER POSITION
(a) When moving the shift lever from the P to the R position with the ignition switch ON and brake pedal depressed, make sure that it moves smoothly and moves correctly into position.
(b) Start the engine and make sure that the vehicle moves forward when moving the shift lever from the N to the D position and moves rearward when moving to the R position.
If the operation cannot be performed as specified, inspect the park/neutral position switch assembly and check the shift lever assembly installation condition.

REMOVAL
1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.

2. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX ASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the console box.





3. DISCONNECT FLOOR SHIFT GEAR SHIFTING ROD SUB-ASSEMBLY
(a) Move the shift lever to the N position.
(b) Remove the nut and disconnect the shifting rod from the connecting rod swivel.
4. REMOVE FLOOR SHIFT ASSEMBLY
(a) Disconnect the 4 connectors.
(b) Remove the 2 wire harness clamps from the floor shift.





(c) Remove the 4 bolts and floor shift.

DISASSEMBLY





1. REMOVE FLOOR SHIFT SHIFT LEVER KNOB SUB-ASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the floor shift lever knob from the shift lever.





2. REMOVE SHIFT POSITION INDICATOR
(a) Using needle-nose pliers, detach the 2 claws and remove the shift position indicator knob, coin box lock and coin box lock compression ring.

NOTICE: Perform this procedure carefully as the coin box compression ring may fly off.





(b) Detach the 8 claws, and remove the position indicator housing plate.





(c) Detach the 6 claws with a screwdriver and remove the position indicator from the floor shift position indicator housing.





3. REMOVE SHIFT LOCK RELEASE BUTTON
(a) Remove the shift lock release button from the shift position indicator.





4. REMOVE TRACTION CONTROL SWITCH
(a) Using a thin-bladed screwdriver, remove the traction control switch from the shift position indicator.





5. REMOVE NO. 1 PATTERN SELECT SWITCH ASSEMBLY
(a) Using a thin-bladed screwdriver, remove the pattern select switch from the shift position indicator.





6. REMOVE RETURN SPRING DAMPER
(a) Remove the screw and return spring damper.





7. REMOVE NO. 1 COIN BOX PANEL
(a) Using a thin-bladed screwdriver, remove the No. 1 shift lever gear.
(b) Using needle-nose pliers, pull out the left and right straight pins.

NOTICE: As the spring may fly out when pulling out the straight pins, hold down the panel and spring while pulling out the straight pins.

(c) Remove the No. 1 coin box panel and coin box panel torsion spring.





8. REMOVE COIN BOX PANEL STRAIGHT PIN





9. REMOVE POSITION INDICATOR LIGHT BULB
(a) Rotate the indicator light wire counterclockwise, align the key part and remove the wire.
(b) Remove the position indicator light bulb from the indicator light wire.





10. REMOVE INDICATOR LIGHT WIRE SUB-ASSEMBLY
(a) Using a thin-bladed screwdriver, release the connector housing retainer of the transmission control switch.





(b) Insert a thin-bladed screwdriver until it contacts the attachment side or the tip of SST, as shown in the illustration of the connector. Then, hold the wiring and pull out the contact.

NOTICE:
^ When reusing a removed contact, check that the contact does not have any abnormalities. Replace the contact if it is abnormal.
^ Do not use SST to raise or pry the connector and housing retainer.
^ Do not use SST if its tip is bent more than 10°.

HINT: The lance of the contact releases when SST is inserted.





11. REMOVE SHIFT LOCK CONTROL ECU
(a) Using a screwdriver, lightly pry the floor shift position indicator housing and remove it.





HINT: The claw locations are shown in the illustration.





(b) Remove the shift lever nut and lock pin from the floor shift.
(c) Remove the shift lever guide housing from the floor shift.

NOTICE: First remove the shift lever nut and lock pin, then detach the 2 claws.





(d) Remove the 2 screws and shift lock control ECU.





12. REMOVE TRANSMISSION CONTROL SWITCH
(a) Remove the transmission control switch from the shift lever guide housing.

INSPECTION





1. INSPECT TRANSMISSION CONTROL SWITCH
(a) Measure the resistance between each terminal of the shift lock control unit assembly when the shift lever is moved to each position.

Standard resistance:








2. INSPECT NO. 1 PATTERN SELECT SWITCH ASSEMBLY
(a) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in table.

Standard resistance:





(b) Connect the battery's positive (+) lead to terminal 2 (ILL+) and the battery's negative (-) lead to terminal 4 (ILL-). Then check the illumination of the switch.
OK: The illumination turns on.

ADJUSTMENT





1. ADJUST SHIFT LEVER POSITION
(a) Remove the nut and disconnect the shifting rod.





(b) Turn the control shaft lever of the neutral start switch counterclockwise until it stops, and turn it clockwise 2 notches to set it to the N position.
(c) Move the shift lever to the N position and tighten the nut while lightly pushing the lever toward the R position.
Torque: 13 N*m (130 kgf*cm, 10 ft.*lbf)

NOTICE: Do not push the shift lever too hard.

(d) Check that the shift lever moves smoothly and the shift lever and gear operate correctly.

REASSEMBLY





1. INSTALL TRANSMISSION CONTROL SWITCH
(a) Install the transmission control switch to the shift lever guide housing.

HINT: Securely attach the claws.





2. INSTALL SHIFT LOCK CONTROL ECU
(a) Apply MP grease to the hatched area of the shift lever guide housing as indicated in the illustration.





(b) Install the shift lock control ECU with the 2 screws.





(c) Install the shift lever guide housing to the floor shift assembly.

NOTICE: When installing the shift lever guide housing, first attach the claw. Then install the shift lever nut and lock pin.

(d) Install the floor shift assembly with the shift lever lock pin and a new shift lever nut.





(e) Attach the claws and install the floor shift position indicator housing.





3. INSTALL INDICATOR LIGHT WIRE SUB-ASSEMBLY
(a) Securely connect the 2 terminals of the 2 indicator light wire harnesses to the transmission control switch connector.





(b) Fix the stopper of the connector in place.





4. INSTALL POSITION INDICATOR LIGHT BULB
(a) Install the position indicator bulb to the indicator light wire.
(b) Align the indicator light wire with the key part of the position indicator guide housing, and install the wire. Then rotate the wire clockwise until it locks.

NOTICE: Securely install the indicator light wire to the position indicator guide housing.





5. INSTALL COIN BOX PANEL STRAIGHT PIN





6. INSTALL NO. 1 COIN BOX PANEL
(a) Install the No. 1 coin box panel and coin box panel torsion spring.
(b) Install the coin box panel straight pin and No. 1 shift lever gear.





7. INSTALL RETURN SPRING DAMPER
(a) Install the return spring damper with the screw.





8. INSTALL SHIFT LOCK RELEASE BUTTON
(a) Install the shift lock release button to the shift position indicator.





9. INSTALL NO. 1 PATTERN SELECT SWITCH ASSEMBLY
(a) Install the pattern select switch to the shift position indicator.





10. INSTALL TRACTION CONTROL SWITCH
(a) Install the traction control switch to the shift position indicator.





11. INSTALL SHIFT POSITION INDICATOR
(a) Attach the 6 claws to install the shift position indicator to the floor shift position indicator housing.

NOTICE: Securely attach the claws.





(b) Attach the 8 claws to install the position indicator housing plate.

NOTICE: Securely attach the claws.





(c) Attach the claws shown in the illustration, and install the shift indicator knob, coin box lock and coin box compression spring.

NOTICE: Securely attach the claws.





12. INSTALL FLOOR SHIFT SHIFT LEVER KNOB SUB-ASSEMBLY
(a) Install the floor shift lever knob to the shift lever.

INSTALLATION





1. INSTALL FLOOR SHIFT ASSEMBLY
(a) Install the floor shift assembly with the 4 bolts.
Torque: 8.3 N*m (85 kgf*cm, 73 in.*lbf)
(b) Install the 2 wire harness clamps to the floor shift assembly.
(c) Connect the 4 connectors.

NOTICE: Do not pinch the wire harness.





2. CONNECT FLOOR SHIFT GEAR SHIFTING ROD SUB-ASSEMBLY
(a) Temporarily connect the shifting rod to the connecting rod swivel with the nut.

HINT: The nut will be tightened to a torque specification during the shift lever position adjustment procedure.

3. INSTALL CONSOLE BOX ASSEMBLY
(a) Install the console box assembly.
4. ADJUST SHIFT LEVER POSITION
(a) Adjust the shift lever position.
5. INSPECT SHIFT LEVER POSITION
(a) Inspect the shift lever position.
6. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
7. PERFORM INITIALIZATION
(a) Perform initialization.

NOTICE: Certain systems need to be initialized after disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
