REASSEMBLY(continued)

31. INSTALL NO. 2 1-WAY CLUTCH ASSEMBLY
(a) Install the 1-way clutch and washer to the clutch drum and input shaft.

32. INSTALL CLUTCH DRUM AND INPUT SHAFT
(a) Install the thrust needle roller bearings and thrust washer.
(b) Coat the race with petroleum jelly and install it onto the clutch drum and input shaft.

33. INSTALL OIL PUMP ASSEMBLY
(a) Install the No. 1 thrust bearing race to the front oil pump.

Standard thrust bearing race diameter:

(b) Coat a new O-ring with ATF, and install it around the oil pump.
(c) Place the oil pump through the input shaft, and align the bolt holes of the oil pump with the transmission case.
(d) Hold the input shaft, and lightly press the oil pump body to slide the oil seal rings into the overdrive direct clutch drum.

(e) Install the 10 bolts.
Torque: 21 N*m (214 kgf*cm, 15 ft.*lbf)

34. INSTALL MANUAL VALVE LEVER SHAFT OIL SEAL
(a) Using SST and a hammer, tap in 2 new oil seals.
SST 09350-30020 (09350-07110)
(b) Coat the lip of the oil seals with MP grease.
35. INSPECT INDIVIDUAL PISTON OPERATION

36. INSTALL MANUAL VALVE LEVER SUB-ASSEMBLY
(a) Install a new spacer to the manual valve lever.
(b) Install the manual valve lever shaft to the transmission case through the manual valve lever.

(d) Align the manual valve lever indentation with the spacer hole, and stake them together with a punch.
(e) Make sure that the shaft rotates smoothly.

37. INSTALL PARKING LOCK PAWL SHAFT
(a) Install the E-ring to the shaft.
(b) Install the parking lock pawl, shaft and spring.

38. INSTALL PARKING LOCK ROD SUB-ASSEMBLY
(a) Connect the parking lock rod to the manual valve lever.

39. INSTALL PARKING LOCK PAWL BRACKET
(a) Place the parking lock pawl bracket onto the transmission case and tighten the 3 bolts.
Torque: 7.4 N*m (75 kgf*cm, 65 in.*lbf)

(b) Shift the manual valve lever to the P position, and confirm that the planetary gear is correctly locked up by the lock pawl.

40. INSTALL B-1 ACCUMULATOR VALVE
(a) Install the 2 springs and accumulator valve to the hole.

41. INSTALL C-3 ACCUMULATOR PISTON
(a) Coat 2 new O-rings with ATF, and install them to the piston.

(b) Install the 2 springs and accumulator piston to the hole.

42. INSTALL B-3 ACCUMULATOR PISTON
(a) Coat 2 new O-rings with ATF, and install them to the piston.

(b) Install the spring and accumulator piston to the hole.

43. INSTALL C-2 ACCUMULATOR PISTON
(a) Coat 2 new O-rings with ATF, and install them to the piston.

(b) Install the spring and the accumulator piston to the hole.

44. INSTALL CHECK BALL BODY
(a) Install the check ball body and spring.

45. INSTALL BRAKE DRUM GASKET
(a) Install the 3 brake drum gaskets.

46. INSTALL TRANSMISSION CASE GASKET
(a) Install the 3 transmission case gaskets.

47. INSTALL TRANSMISSION VALVE BODY ASSEMBLY
(a) Align the groove of the manual valve lever with the pin of the manual valve and install the pin.

(b) Install the 20 bolts.
Torque: 11 N*m (110 kgf*cm, 8 ft.*lbf)

HINT: Each bolt length is indicated below.

Bolt length:
25 mm (0.98 in.) for bolt A
36 mm (1.42 in.) for bolt B
45 mm (1.77 in.) for bolt C
50 mm (1.97 in.) for bolt D

48. INSTALL TRANSMISSION WIRE
(a) Install a new O-ring to the transmission wire.
(b) Install the transmission wire with the bolt.
(c) Install the bolt.
Torque: 5.4 N*m (55 kgf*cm, 48 in.*lbf)

(d) Connect the 9 solenoid connectors to the solenoid valves.

(e) Install the 2 clamps with the 2 bolts.
Torque:
6.4 N*m (65 kgf*cm, 57 in.*lbf) for bolt A
10 N*m (102 kgf*cm, 7 ft.*lbf) for bolt B

(f) Install the ATF temperature sensor and lock plate with the bolt.
Torque: 10 N*m (102 kgf*cm, 7 ft.*lbf)

49. INSTALL VALVE BODY OIL STRAINER ASSEMBLY
(a) Coat a new O-ring with ATF, and install it to the valve body oil strainer.
(b) Install the oil strainer with the 4 bolts.
Torque: 10 N*m (102 kgf*cm, 7 ft.*lbf)

50. INSTALL TRANSMISSION OIL CLEANER MAGNET
(a) Install the 3 transmission oil cleaner magnets.
51. INSTALL AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION OIL PAN SUB-ASSEMBLY
(a) Install a new gasket on the oil pan.
(b) Install and tighten the 20 bolts.
Torque: 4.4 N*m (45 kgf*cm, 39 in.*lbf)
(c) Install a new gasket and the drain plug.
Torque: 20 N*m (204 kgf*cm, 15 ft.*lbf)
(d) Install a new gasket and the overflow plug.
Torque: 20 N*m (204 kgf*cm, 15 ft.*lbf)

52. INSTALL AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION EXTENSION HOUSING OIL SEAL
(a) Using SST and a hammer, tap in a new oil seal to the extension housing.
SST 09309-37010
Standard oil seal depth: 1.8 to 2.2 mm (0.07 to 0.09 in.)
53. INSTALL TRANSMISSION CASE ADAPTOR RADIAL BALL BEARING

54. INSTALL REAR COVER SLEEVE
(a) Install the 2 washers and rear cover sleeve to the output shaft.

55. INSTALL EXTENSION HOUSING SUB-ASSEMBLY
(a) Install the thrust needle roller bearing and 2 bearing races.
(b) Using a snap ring expander, install a new snap ring.

(c) Using a feeler gauge, measure the clearance between the snap ring and race.
Standard clearance: 0.02 to 0.12 mm (0.0008 to 0.0047 in.)
If the clearance is not as specified, select another race that brings the clearance within the standard.

HINT: There are 12 different thicknesses for the race.

Standard flange thickness:

(d) Clean the threads of the bolts and the case with non-residue solvent.

(e) Apply seal packing to the extension housing as shown in the illustration.
Seal packing: Toyota Genuine Seal Packing 1281, Three Bond 1281 or Equivalent

(f) Install the extension housing with the 6 bolts.
Torque: 34 N*m (347 kgf*cm, 25 ft.*lbf)

HINT: Each bolt length is indicated below.

Bolt length:
45 mm (1.772 mm) for bolt A
35 mm (1.378 mm) for bolt B

56. INSTALL AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLANGE YOKE ASSEMBLY
(a) Using SST, install a new oil seal to the automatic transmission flange yoke.
SST 09517-36010

(b) Using SST and a 30 mm socket wrench, install and tighten a new nut.
SST 09330-00021, 09950-30012 (09955-03040)
Torque: 126 N*m (1,285 kgf*cm, 93 ft.*lbf)
(c) Using a chisel and hammer, securely stake the nut.

57. INSTALL AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION HOUSING
(a) Clean the threads of the bolts and the case with non-residue solvent.
(b) Install the transmission housing with the 10 bolts.
Torque:
34 N*m (347 kgf*cm, 25 ft.*lbf) for bolt A (14 mm head)
57 N*m (581 kgf*cm, 42 ft.*lbf) for bolt B (17 mm head)

58. INSTALL AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION BREATHER TUBE
(a) Install the breather tube with the 2 bolts.
Torque: 5.4 N*m (55 kgf*cm, 48 in.*lbf)

59. INSTALL TRANSMISSION REVOLUTION SENSOR
(a) Coat 2 new O-rings with ATF, and install them to the transmission revolution sensors.
(b) Install the 2 transmission revolution sensors with the 2 bolts.
Torque: 5.4 N*m (55 kgf*cm, 48 in.*lbf)

60. INSTALL OIL COOLER TUBE UNION
(a) Coat 2 new O-rings with ATF, and install them to the oil cooler tube unions.
(b) Install the oil cooler tube unions as shown in the illustration.
Torque: 29 N*m (296 kgf*cm, 21 ft.*lbf)

61. INSTALL PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY
(a) Install the park/neutral position switch onto the manual valve lever shaft, and temporarily install the bolt.
(b) Install a new lock washer with the nut.
Torque: 6.9 N*m (70 kgf*cm, 61 in.*lbf)

(c) Using the control shaft lever, move the manual lever shaft back all the way and then forward 2 notches. It is now in neutral.

(d) Align the neutral basic line with the switch groove as shown in the illustration, and tighten the bolt.
Torque: 13 N*m (130 kgf*cm, 9 ft.*lbf)

(e) Using a screwdriver, bend the tabs of the lock washer.

HINT: Bend at least 2 washer tabs.

62. INSTALL TRANSMISSION CONTROL SHAFT LEVER RH
(a) Install the control shaft lever RH, spring washer and nut.
Torque: 16 N*m (163 kgf*cm, 12 ft.*lbf)
63. INSTALL TRANSMISSION CASE COVER UPPER
(a) Install the transmission case cover upper with the 2 bolts.
Torque: 5.4 N*m (55 kgf*cm, 48 in.*lbf)
