Engine Control Module: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.

2. REMOVE ECM BOX COVER




a. Remove the 3 bolts and ECM box cover.

NOTE:
- Make sure there is no water and / or foreign matter around the ECM box cover.
- Perform the inspection indoors to avoid rain.
- Prevent water from contacting the ECM's connectors and screw areas.

3. REMOVE ECM




a. Disconnect the 5 ECM connectors.
b. Remove the 2 nuts and ECM from the ECM box.

INSTALLATION

1. INSTALL ECM




a. Insert the ECM into the ECM box.
b. Install the ECM to the ECM box with the 2 nuts.

Torque: 5.5 N.m(56 kgf.cm, 49 in.lbf)

c. Connect the 5 ECM connectors.

2. INSTALL ECM BOX COVER




a. Install the ECM box cover with the 3 bolts.

Torque: 5.0 N.m(51 kgf.cm, 44 in.lbf)

3. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

4. PERFORM INITIALIZATION
a. Perform initialization.

NOTE: Certain systems need to be initialized after disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
