Tire Pressure Sensor: Service and Repair

TIRE PRESSURE WARNING VALVE AND TRANSMITTER

COMPONENTS:

REMOVAL
1. REMOVE WHEEL HUB ORNAMENT SUB-ASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the 10 bolts and ornament.
2. REMOVE FRONT WHEEL
(a) Remove the 5 nuts and wheel.
3. REMOVE REAR WHEEL
(a) Remove the 5 nuts and wheel.

4. REMOVE TIRE PRESSURE WARNING VALVE AND TRANSMITTER
(a) Remove the valve core and cap, and release air from the tire.
(b) After ensuring that air is sufficiently released, remove the nut, washer and outer grommet holding the tire pressure warning valve and transmitter and drop the sensor inside the tire.
(c) Disengage the bead using the shoe of the tire remover.

NOTICE: Be careful not to damage the tire pressure warning valve and transmitter due to interference between the tire pressure warning valve and transmitter and tire bead.

(d) Remove the bead on the upper side.
(e) Take out the tire pressure warning valve and transmitter from the tire and remove the bead on the lower side.
(f) Remove the inner grommet from the tire pressure warning valve and transmitter. Check that the grommet is not cracked or damaged. If necessary, replace the grommet together with the washer and nut.

INSTALLATION

1. INSTALL TIRE PRESSURE WARNING VALVE AND TRANSMITTER

HINT: When replacing the tire pressure warning valve and transmitter, replace it with the one which has the same identification paint color.

(a) Install the inner grommet to the tire pressure warning valve and transmitter.

(b) Before installing the tire pressure warning valve and transmitter, check the following.
(1) Check that the tire pressure warning valve and transmitter is not deformed or damaged. If the valve is deformed or damage, repair or replace it.
(2) Check whether the rim, grommet, washer and nut are clean.
If necessary, clean them.

NOTICE:
^ Make sure that the tire pressure warning valve and transmitter is installed so that the "PACIFIC" mark on the tire pressure warning valve and transmitter is visible.
^ Be careful not to damage the tire pressure warning valve and transmitter when pulling it out. A damaged valve interferes signal communication during high-speed driving.

(c) Install the outer grommet and washer with the nut.
Torque: 3.0 N*m (31 kgf*cm, 27 in.*lbf)

(d) Set the wheel disc to the mounting machine and install the lower tire bead. At this time, position the sensor of the tire pressure warning valve and transmitter to the shaded area shown in the illustration.

NOTICE: Do not position the sensor outside the shaded area. Damage may occur to the sensor when it generates interference with the tire bead.

(e) Install the upper bead.

NOTICE: Make sure that the tire bead and tool do not interfere with the main body of the sensor, and that the sensor is not clamped by the bead.

2. INSTALL FRONT WHEEL
(a) Install the wheel with the 5 nuts.
Torque: 103 N*m (1,050 kgf*cm, 76 ft.*lbf)
3. INSTALL REAR WHEEL
(a) Install the wheel with the 5 nuts.
Torque: 103 N*m (1,050 kgf*cm, 76 ft.*lbf)
4. INSTALL WHEEL HUB ORNAMENT SUB-ASSEMBLY
(a) Install the ornament with the 10 bolts.
Torque: 20 N*m (204 kgf*cm, 15 ft.*lbf)
5. INSPECT TIRE
6. REGISTER TRANSMITTER ID
(a) Register the transmitter ID.
7. PERFORM INITIALIZATION (for Tire Pressure Warning System)
(a) When the valve is replaced, perform initialization.

DISPOSAL

1. DISPOSE OF TIRE PRESSURE WARNING VALVE AND TRANSMITTER
(a) Insert the tip of a screwdriver into the clearance and pry off the cover. Remove the back cover to access the battery and base board.

(b) The battery and base board are covered with silicone resin. Disconnect the 2 terminals between the battery and base board. Then remove the battery.
