INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD

Instrument Panel Safety Pad:

REMOVAL

1. BOLT, SCREW AND NUT TABLE

HINT: All bolts, screws and nuts relevant to installing and removing the instrument panel are shown along with their alphabet codes in the table below.

2. REMOVE SET RADIO RECEIVER ASSEMBLY TO SHIPMENT
3. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.

4. SET STEERING WHEEL CENTER POINT
5. REMOVE NO. 2 STEERING WHEEL COVER LOWER
6. REMOVE SWITCH AND VOLUME CASE
7. REMOVE STEERING PAD SWITCH MODULATOR
8. REMOVE STEERING PAD ASSEMBLY
9. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY
10. REMOVE DOOR SCUFF PLATE ASSEMBLY RH

a. Using a screwdriver, detach the 4 claws and 5 clips.

HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

b. Disconnect the connector and remove the door scuff plate.

11. REMOVE DOOR SCUFF PLATE ASSEMBLY LH

HINT: Use the same procedures described for RH side.

12. REMOVE FRONT DOOR OPENING TRIM COVER RH

a. Using a screwdriver, detach the 3 claws and remove the trim cover.

HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

13. REMOVE FRONT DOOR OPENING TRIM COVER LH

HINT: Use the same procedures described for RH side.

14. REMOVE NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD SUB-ASSEMBLY

a. Disconnect the hood lock control cable and connectors.
b. Remove the 3 bolts.
c. Detach the 4 clips and safety pad.

15. REMOVE DRIVER SIDE KNEE AIRBAG ASSEMBLY
16. REMOVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY

a. Using a screwdriver, detach the 4 clips and remove the panel.

HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

b. Disconnect the connector.

17. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER LOWER
18. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER UPPER
19. REMOVE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH ASSEMBLY
20. REMOVE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY

a. Remove the 4 screws.
b. Disconnect the connectors and remove the combination meter.

21. REMOVE REAR CONSOLE UPPER PANEL GARNISH

a. Using a moulding remover, detach the 4 claws.
b. Disconnect the connectors and remove the panel garnish.

22. REMOVE UPPER CONSOLE PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY

a. Using a moulding remover, detach the 6 clips and 4 claws.
b. Disconnect the connectors and remove the panel.

HINT: Move the shift lever to N and close the receptacle door.

23. REMOVE AIR CONDITIONING CONTROL ASSEMBLY

a. Detach the 6 clips and remove the air conditioning control. Then disconnect the connectors.

24. REMOVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY LOWER CENTER
25. SHIP MODE CONFIRMATION
26. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD GARNISH SUB-ASSEMBLY (w/o LEXUS Navigation System)

a. Using a screwdriver, release the 4 claws on the instrument safety pad body from inside of the registers.

HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

b. Using a moulding remover, detach the 5 clips and remove the safety pad garnish.

27. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD GARNISH SUB-ASSEMBLY (w/ LEXUS Navigation System)

a. Using a screwdriver, release the 2 claws on the instrument safety pad body from inside of the register.

HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

b. Using a moulding remover, detach the 3 clips and remove the safety pad garnish.

28. REMOVE NO. 2 INSTRUMENT PANEL GARNISH SUB-ASSEMBLY (w/ LEXUS Navigation System)

a. Using a screwdriver, release the 2 claws on the instrument safety pad body from inside of the register.

HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

b. Using a moulding remover, detach the 6 clips and remove the panel garnish.

29. REMOVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY CENTER (w/ LEXUS Navigation System)
30. REMOVE NO. 2 INSTRUMENT PANEL UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY

a. Detach the 3 clips and 2 claws.
b. Disconnect the connector and remove the under cover.

31. REMOVE GLOVE COMPARTMENT DOOR ASSEMBLY

a. Remove the 2 bolts and 2 screws.
b. Disconnect the connectors.

CAUTION: When handling the airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.

c. Remove the glove compartment door together with the airbag assembly.

32. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX CARPET
33. REMOVE NO. 3 BOX PANEL

a. Using a screwdriver, detach the 7 claws and remove the panel.

HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

34. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX ASSEMBLY

a. Remove the 8 bolts and 4 screws.
b. Detach the 2 clips and remove the console box.

35. REMOVE NO. 2 INSTRUMENT PANEL BRACE SUB-ASSEMBLY

a. Remove the 2 bolts and tire pressure monitor receiver.
b. Remove the nut, bolt and brace.

36. REMOVE NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL BRACE SUB-ASSEMBLY

a. Remove the 2 nuts, 2 bolts and brace.

37. REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH RH

a. Using a screwdriver, detach the claw and 2 clips. Then remove the pillar garnish.

HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

38. REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH LH

HINT: Use the same procedures described for RH side.

39. REMOVE INSTRUMENT SIDE PANEL RH

a. Using a moulding remover, detach the 6 claws and remove the panel.

40. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD SUB-ASSEMBLY
a. Fold back the front floor carpet.
b. Disconnect all connectors.

c. Remove the 2 caps, 8 bolts and steering yoke bolt.

d. Detach the 2 claws and remove the instrument panel safety pad (with instrument panel reinforcement and steering column).

INSTALLATION

1. INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD SUB-ASSEMBLY
a. Attach the 2 claws to install the instrument panel safety pad (with instrument panel reinforcement and steering column).
b. Install the instrument panel safety pad with the 8 bolts, 2 caps and steering yoke bolt.

c. Connect the connectors.

d. Install the floor carpet.

2. INSTALL INSTRUMENT SIDE PANEL RH

a. Attach the 6 claws to install the panel

3. INSTALL FRONT PILLAR GARNISH RH

a. Attach the claw and 2 clips to install the pillar garnish.

4. INSTALL FRONT PILLAR GARNISH LH

HINT: Use the same procedures described for RH side.

5. INSTALL NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL BRACE SUB-ASSEMBLY

a. Install the brace with the 2 nuts and 2 bolts.

6. INSTALL NO. 2 INSTRUMENT PANEL BRACE SUB-ASSEMBLY

a. Install the brace with the bolt and nut.
b. Install the tire pressure monitor receiver with the 2 bolts.

7. INSTALL CONSOLE BOX ASSEMBLY

a. Attach the 2 clips to install the console box.
b. Install the 8 bolts and 4 screws.

8. INSTALL NO. 3 BOX PANEL

a. Attach the 7 claws to install the panel

9. INSTALL CONSOLE BOX CARPET
10. INSTALL GLOVE COMPARTMENT DOOR ASSEMBLY

a. Connect the connectors.

CAUTION: When handling the airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.

b. Install the glove compartment door together with the airbag assembly.
c. Install the 2 screws.
d. Install the 2 bolts.

Torque: 10 N.m (102 kgf.cm, 7 ft.lbf)

11. INSTALL NO. 2 INSTRUMENT PANEL UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY

a. Connect the connector.
b. Attach the 3 clips and 2 claws to install the under cover.

12. INSTALL INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY CENTER (w/ LEXUS Navigation System)
13. INSTALL NO. 2 INSTRUMENT PANEL GARNISH SUB-ASSEMBLY (w/ LEXUS Navigation System)

a. Attach the 6 clips and 2 claws to install the panel garnish.

14. INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD GARNISH SUB-ASSEMBLY (w/ LEXUS Navigation System)

a. Attach the 3 clips and 2 claws to install the safety pad garnish.

15. INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD GARNISH SUB-ASSEMBLY (w/o LEXUS Navigation System)

a. Attach the 5 clips and 4 claws to install the safety pad garnish.

16. INSTALL INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY LOWER CENTER
17. INSTALL AIR CONDITIONING CONTROL ASSEMBLY

a. Connect the connector.
b. Attach the 6 clips to install the air conditioning control.

18. INSTALL UPPER CONSOLE PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY

a. Connect the connectors.
b. Attach the 6 clips and 4 claws to install the panel.

19. INSTALL REAR CONSOLE UPPER PANEL GARNISH

a. Connect the connectors.
b. Attach the 4 claws to install the panel garnish.

20. INSTALL COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY

a. Connect the connectors.
b. Install the combination meter with the 4 screws.

21. INSTALL TURN SIGNAL SWITCH ASSEMBLY
22. INSTALL STEERING COLUMN COVER LOWER
23. INSTALL STEERING COLUMN COVER UPPER
24. INSTALL INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY

a. Connect the connector.
b. Attach the 4 clips to install the panel.

25. INSTALL DRIVER SIDE KNEE AIRBAG ASSEMBLY
26. INSTALL NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD SUB-ASSEMBLY

a. Attach the 4 Clips to install the safety pad.
b. Install the 3 bolts.
c. Connect the hood lock control cable and connectors.

27. INSTALL FRONT DOOR OPENING TRIM COVER RH

a. Attach the 3 claws to install the trim cover.

28. INSTALL FRONT DOOR OPENING TRIM COVER LH

HINT: Use the same procedures described for RH side.

29. INSTALL DOOR SCUFF PLATE ASSEMBLY RH

a. Connect the connector.
b. Attach the 4 claws and 5 clips to install the door scuff plate.

30. INSTALL DOOR SCUFF PLATE ASSEMBLY LH

HINT: Use the same procedures described for RH side.

31. INSTALL STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY
32. INSTALL STEERING PAD ASSEMBLY
33. INSTALL STEERING PAD SWITCH MODULATOR
34. INSTALL SWITCH AND VOLUME CASE
35. INSTALL NO. 2 STEERING WHEEL COVER LOWER
36. SET STEERING WHEEL CENTER POINT
37. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
38. PERFORM INITIALIZATION
a. Perform initialization.

NOTICE: Certain systems need to be initialized after disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.

39. CHECK SRS WARNING LIGHT
a. Check the SRS warning light.
