Headlamp Dimmer Switch: Service and Repair

Headlight Dimmer Switch:




HEADLIGHT DIMMER SWITCH

REMOVAL

CAUTION:
- Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.
- Some of these service operations affect the SRS airbag system. Read the precautionary notices concerning the SRS airbag system before servicing the steering column.


1. PLACE FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD
2. REMOVE FRONT WHEELS
3. REMOVE COWL TOP VENTILATOR LOUVER RH

4. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
a. Disable the AUTO TILT AWAY function by changing the customize parameter.

NOTE: Record the current customize parameter setting (whether the AUTO TILT AWAY function is enabled or disabled) in order to restore the current setting after finishing the operation.

HINT: Performing the above operation causes the AUTO TILT AWAY function to be disabled when the engine switch is turned off.

b. Turn the engine switch on (IG). Operate the tilt and telescopic switch to fully extend and lower the steering column assembly.
c. Turn the engine switch off and disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal.

CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.

NOTE: After the engine switch is turned off, the HDD navigation system requires approximately 6 minutes to record various types of memory and settings. As a result, after turning the engine switch off, wait 6 minutes or more before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.

5. REMOVE SWITCH & VOLUME CASE
6. REMOVE NO.2 STEERING WHEEL COVER LOWER
7. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL PAD
8. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY
9. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER
10. REMOVE SPIRAL CABLE




11. REMOVE WINDSHIELD WIPER SWITCH ASSEMBLY
a. Disconnect the connectors.
b. Using a screwdriver, detach the claw and remove the windshield wiper switch.

HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

NOTE: If the claw is pressed forcefully, it will break.




12. REMOVE HEADLIGHT DIMMER SWITCH ASSEMBLY
a. Disconnect the band clamp as shown in the illustration.




b. Detach the claw and remove the headlight dimmer switch.

NOTE: If the claw is pressed forcefully, it will break.

INSTALLATION




1. INSTALL HEADLIGHT DIMMER SWITCH ASSEMBLY
a. Insert the headlight dimmer switch assembly into the steering column making sure that the stopper's protrusions and cutout parts align.




b. Install the headlight dimmer switch assembly with the band clamp and claw.




2. INSTALL WINDSHIELD WIPER SWITCH ASSEMBLY
a. Attach the claw and install the windshield wiper switch.
b. Connect the connectors.

3. INSTALL STEERING COLUMN COVER
4. INSPECT SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY
5. INSTALL STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY
6. INSPECT STEERING WHEEL CENTER POINT
7. INSPECT STEERING PAD
8. INSTALL STEERING WHEEL PAD
9. INSTALL NO.2 STEERING WHEEL COVER LOWER
10. INSTALL SWITCH & VOLUME CASE
11. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

NOTE: Reset the AUTO TILT AWAY function setting to the previous condition by changing the customize parameter.

12. INSTALL COWL TOP VENTILATOR LOUVER RH

13. INSPECT SRS WARNING LIGHT
a. Inspect the SRS warning light.

14. PERFORM INITIALIZATION
a. Perform initialization.

NOTE: Certain systems need to be initialized after disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
