Check Mode Procedure

CHECK MODE PROCEDURE

HINT:
- DTCs can be detected more sensitively in check mode than in normal diagnosis mode.
- Perform check mode inspection when a malfunction in each squib circuit is suspected even after the normal system code is output through normal diagnosis mode inspection.

1. CHECK MODE PROCEDURE (Using Intelligent Tester or Techstream)
a. Check and ensure the following conditions:
1. Battery positive voltage 11 V or more.
2. Throttle valve fully closed.
3. Transmission in the P or N positions.
4. A/C switch OFF.

b. Turn the engine switch off.
c. Connect the intelligent tester or Techstream to the DLC3.
d. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

e. Turn the tester ON.
1. Intelligent tester-Select: DIAGNOSIS / ENHANCED OBD II / CHECK MODE
2. Techstream-Select: Air Bag / Check Mode

f. Switch the ECM from normal mode.
g. Make sure the MIL flashes as shown in the illustration.
h. Start the engine.
i. Make sure the MIL turns off.
j. Simulate the conditions of the malfunction described by the customer.
k. Check DTCs and freeze frame data using the tester.
