Spark Plug: Service and Repair
REMOVAL1. REMOVE COWL TOP VENTILATOR LOUVER RH
2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.
NOTE: After the engine switch is turned off, the HDD navigation system requires approximately 6 minutes to record various types of memory and settings. As a result, after turning the engine switch off, wait 6 minutes or more before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
3. REMOVE V-BANK COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY
4. REMOVE AIR CLEANER INLET COVER
5. REMOVE ENGINE ROOM SIDE COVER LH
6. REMOVE ENGINE ROOM SIDE COVER RH
7. REMOVE NO.1 AIR CLEANER INLET
8. REMOVE SKID CONTROL ECU
9. REMOVE SKID CONTROL ECU BRACKET
10. REMOVE BATTERY
a. Disconnect the positive (+) battery cable from the battery terminal.
b. Disconnect the battery cable clamp.
c. Remove the nut, battery clamp and No. 2 battery clamp bolt.
d. Remove the battery insulator.
e. Remove the battery.
11. REMOVE BATTERY TRAY
a. Remove the 3 bolts and battery tray.
12. REMOVE AIR CLEANER ASSEMBLY LH
13. REMOVE AIR CLEANER ASSEMBLY RH
14. REMOVE IGNITION COIL ASSEMBLY
a. Disconnect the 8 ignition coil connectors.
b. Remove the 8 bolts.
c. Using a screwdriver, pry at the cutouts to remove the 8 ignition coils together with the 8 spark plug tube gaskets.
NOTE: Do not damage the cylinder head cover when removing the spark plug tube gasket.
HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
15. REMOVE SPARK PLUG
a. Using a 16 mm plug wrench, remove the 8 spark plugs.
INSTALLATION
1. INSTALL SPARK PLUG
a. Using a 16 mm plug wrench, install the 8 spark plugs.
Torque: 18 N.m (184 kgf.cm, 13 ft.lbf)
2. INSTALL IGNITION COIL ASSEMBLY
a. Perform a visual inspection on the spark plug tube gasket.
b. Slide a new spark plug tube gasket onto the ignition coil as given in the illustration.
c. After installing the spark plug tube gasket, firmly insert the ignition coil as given in the illustration.
d. Install the 8 bolts.
Torque: 10 N.m (102 kgf.cm, 7 ft.lbf)
e. Connect the 8 ignition coil connectors.
3. INSTALL AIR CLEANER ASSEMBLY RH
4. INSTALL AIR CLEANER ASSEMBLY LH
5. INSTALL BATTERY TRAY
a. Install the battery tray with the 3 bolts.
Torque: 5.4 N.m (55 kgf.cm, 47 in.lbf)
6. INSTALL BATTERY
a. Install the battery.
b. Install the battery insulator.
c. Install the No. 2 battery clamp bolt and battery clamp with the nut.
Torque: 2.9 N.m (30 kgf.cm, 26 in.lbf)
d. Connect the battery cable clamp.
e. Connect the positive (+) battery cable to the battery terminal.
Torque: 5.6 N.m (57 kgf.cm, 50 in.lbf)
7. INSTALL SKID CONTROL ECU BRACKET
8. INSTALL SKID CONTROL ECU
9. INSTALL NO.1 AIR CLEANER INLET
10. INSTALL ENGINE ROOM SIDE COVER RH
11. INSTALL ENGINE ROOM SIDE COVER LH
12. INSTALL AIR CLEANER INLET COVER
13. INSTALL V-BANK COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY
14. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
15. INSTALL COWL TOP VENTILATOR LOUVER RH
16. PERFORM INITIALIZATION
a. Perform initialization.
NOTE: Certain systems need to be initialized after disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
