Throttle Body: Service and Repair
REMOVAL1. REMOVE COWL TOP VENTILATOR LOUVER RH
2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.
NOTE: After the engine switch is turned off, the HDD navigation system requires approximately 6 minutes to record various types of memory and settings. As a result, after turning the engine switch off, wait 6 minutes or more before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
3. REMOVE V-BANK COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY
a. While using both hands, lift the rear side of the cover upwards to detach the 4 clips B. Slide the cover towards the front of the vehicle to detach the 2 clips labeled A, and remove the V-bank cover.
NOTE: The V-bank cover may be damaged if its front and rear are lifted at the same time.
4. REMOVE AIR CLEANER INLET COVER
a. Remove the 5 clips A.
b. Lift up the air cleaner inlet cover to detach the 4 clips B, and remove the cover.
5. REMOVE NO. 1 AIR CLEANER INLET
a. Remove the 2 bolts.
b. Hold the air cleaner inlet by the protrusions A and B, and detach the connections.
c. Rotate the No. 1 air cleaner inlet as shown in the illustration to detach the protrusion C.
d. Hold the air cleaner inlet by the protrusions D and E, and detach the connections.
e. Rotate the No. 1 air cleaner inlet as shown in the illustration to detach the protrusion F.
6. REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE UNDER COVER
7. DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT
8. REMOVE INTAKE AIR CONNECTOR PIPE
a. Disconnect the No. 1 ventilation hose and No. 2 ventilation hose from the intake air connector pipe.
b. Loosen the 3 hose clamps, and remove the intake air connector pipe.
9. REMOVE THROTTLE BODY
a. Disconnect the throttle motor connector.
b. Remove the 4 bolts and throttle body.
c. Slide the clamps, and disconnect the No. 4 and No. 5 water by-pass hoses from the throttle body.
d. Remove the gasket from the intake manifold.
INSTALLATION
1. INSTALL THROTTLE BODY
a. Install a new gasket to the intake manifold.
b. Connect the No. 4 water by-pass hose and No. 5 water by-pass hose to the throttle body.
NOTE: Position the claws of the clamps as given in the illustration.
c. Install the throttle body with the 4 bolts.
Torque: 10 N.m (102 kgf.cm, 7 ft.lbf)
d. Connect the throttle motor connector.
2. INSTALL INTAKE AIR CONNECTOR PIPE
a. Align the protrusion of the intake air resonator with the cutout of the bracket and insert the protrusion.
b. Install the intake air connector pipe with the 3 hose clamps.
Torque:
4.8 N.m (48 kgf.cm, 42 in.lbf) for intake air connector pipe and throttle body
3.8 N.m (38 kgf.cm, 34 in.lbf) for intake air connector pipe and intake air resonator
NOTE: Insert the protrusion of the intake air connector pipe into the hole of the hose clamp.
HINT:
- The intake air connector pipe and throttle body can be tightened within the range of 4.0 N.m (41 kgf.cm, 35 in.lbf) to 5.5 N.m (56 kgf.cm, 49 in.lbf), and the intake air connector pipe and intake air resonator can be tightened within the range of 2.0 N.m (20 kgf.cm, 18 in.lbf) to 5.5 N.m (56 kgf.cm, 49 in.lbf).
- When tightening the hose clamp, make sure the hose clamp's end is within the painted white line (width: 2 mm or 0.079 in.).
c. Connect the No. 1 ventilation hose and No. 2 ventilation hose to the intake air connector pipe.
NOTE:
- Position the claws of the clamps as shown in the illustration.
- Install the clips so that they are within the hose's paint marks.
3. INSTALL NO. 1 AIR CLEANER INLET
a. Align the holes with the connection areas labeled A, and attach the No. 1 air cleaner inlet.
b. Install the No. 1 air cleaner inlet with the 2 bolts.
Torque: 5.0 N.m (51 kgf.cm, 44 in.lbf)
4. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
5. ADD ENGINE COOLANT
6. INSPECT FOR ENGINE COOLANT LEAK
7. INSTALL AIR CLEANER INLET COVER
a. Attach the 4 clips B.
NOTE:
- Make sure the clips are attached securely.
- Attaching the clips forcefully or hitting the top of the clips may damage them.
b. Install the air cleaner inlet cover with the 5 clips A.
8. INSTALL V-BANK COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY
a. After sliding the cover from the vehicle front to the rear to attaching the 2 clips A, attach the 4 clips B and install the V bank cover.
NOTE:
- Make sure the clips are attached securely.
- Attaching the clips forcefully or hitting the top of the clips may damage them.
9. INSTALL NO. 1 ENGINE UNDER COVER
10. INSTALL COWL TOP VENTILATOR LOUVER RH
11. PERFORM INITIALIZATION
a. Perform initialization.
NOTE: Certain systems need to be initialized after disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
