Fuel Pressure Pulsation Damper: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

1. PRECAUTION

2. DISCHARGE FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE
a. Discharge fuel system pressure.

3. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.

NOTE: After the engine switch is turned off, the HDD navigation system requires approximately 6 minutes to record various types of memory and settings. As a result, after turning the engine switch off, wait 6 minutes or more before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.

4. REMOVE INTAKE MANIFOLD
a. Remove the intake manifold.

5. DISCONNECT NO.1 FUEL PIPE SUB-ASSEMBLY

a. Lift up the retainer to release its lock.
b. Pinch the tube connector and then pull out the fuel pipe.

NOTE:
- Check for any dirt and foreign matter contamination in the pipe and around the connector. Clean if necessary. Foreign matter may damage the O-rings or cause leaks in the seal between the pipe and connector.
- Do not use any tools to separate the pipe and connector.
- Do not forcefully bend or twist the nylon tube.
- Check for any dirt and foreign matter on the pipe seal surface. Clean if necessary.
- Put the pipe and connector ends in plastic bags to prevent damage and dirt contamination.
- If the pipe and connector are stuck together, pinch the tube between your fingers and turn it carefully to free it. Then disconnect the pipe.

6. REMOVE NO. 3 ENGINE COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY

a. Remove the 2 bolts and bracket.

b. Remove the 2 clips and No. 3 engine cover.

7. REMOVE FUEL PRESSURE PULSATION DAMPER ASSEMBLY

a. Remove the bolt and bracket.

b. Disconnect the connector from the delivery pipe.

c. Disconnect the 3 fuel hoses.

d. Using SST, loosen the 2 fuel pressure pulsation dampers.

SST 09612-24014 (09617-24011)

e. Remove the 2 clamp bolts shown in the illustration.
f. Remove the 2 pulsation dampers, 4 gaskets and No.1 fuel pipe sub-assembly.

INSTALLATION

1. INSTALL FUEL PRESSURE PULSATION DAMPER ASSEMBLY

a. Temporarily install the 2 dampers together with 4 new gaskets and the pipe to the fuel pump.

b. Install the 2 clamp bolts.

Torque: 10 N.m (102 kgf.cm, 7 ft.lbf)

c. Using SST, tighten the 2 dampers.

SST 09612-24014 (09617-24011)

Torque:
without SST
40 N.m (408 kgf.cm, 30 ft.lbf)
with SST
35 N.m (357 kgf.cm, 26 ft.lbf)

HINT:
- Use a torque wrench with a fulcrum length of 30 cm (11.81 in.).
- Make sure SST and wrench are connected in a straight line.

d. Connect the 3 fuel hoses.

e. Connect the connector to the delivery pipe.

f. Install the bracket with the bolt.

Torque: 10 N.m (102 kgf.cm, 7 ft.lbf)

2. INSTALL NO. 3 ENGINE COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY

a. Install the No. 3 engine cover with the 2 clips.

b. Install the bracket with the 2 bolts.

Torque: 10 N.m (102 kgf.cm, 7 ft.lbf)

3. CONNECT NO. 1 FUEL PIPE SUB-ASSEMBLY

a. Push in the tube connector to the pipe until the tube connector makes a "click" sound.
b. Push down on the retainer to lock it in place.

NOTE:
- Check that there is no damage or foreign objects on the connected part of the fuel pipe.
- After connecting, check that the fuel tube connector and the pipe are securely connected by pulling on them.

4. INSTALL INTAKE MANIFOLD
a. Install the intake manifold.

5. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

6. PERFORM INITIALIZATION
a. Perform initialization.

NOTE: Certain systems need to be initialized after disconnecting and reconnecting the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.

7. REMOVE ENGINE COOLANT
8. CHECK FOR ENGINE COOLANT LEAKS
9. CHECK FOR FUEL LEAKS
