Front Axle Hub

FRONT AXLE HUB

COMPONENTS:





ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION
1. REMOVE FRONT WHEEL
2. DISCONNECT FRONT DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY LH
3. REMOVE FRONT DISC





4. INSPECT FRONT AXLE HUB BEARING LOOSENESS
(a) Using a dial indicator, measure the looseness near the center of the axle hub.
Maximum: 0.05 mm (0.0020 in.)

NOTICE: Ensure that the dial indicator is set at a right angle to the measurement surface.

If the looseness exceeds the maximum, replace the axle hub.





5. INSPECT FRONT AXLE HUB RUNOUT
(a) Using a dial indicator, measure the runout on the surface of the axle hub outside the hub bolt.
Maximum: 0.05 mm (0.0020 in.)

NOTICE: Ensure that the dial indicator is set at a right angle to the measurement surface.

If the runout exceeds the maximum, replace the axle hub.
6. INSTALL FRONT DISC
7. CONNECT FRONT DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY LH
8. INSTALL FRONT WHEEL
Torque: 140 N*m (1428 kgf*cm, 103 ft.*lbf)

REMOVAL

HINT:
^ Use the same procedures for the RH side and LH side.
^ The procedures listed below are for the LH side.

1. REMOVE FRONT WHEEL





2. DISCONNECT SPEED SENSOR CONNECTOR
(a) Remove the 2 bolts and disconnect the connector from the speed sensor.

NOTICE: Do not twist the speed sensor wire.





3. DISCONNECT FRONT DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY LH
(a) Remove the bolt and disconnect the flexible hose from the steering knuckle.
(b) Remove the 2 bolts and front disc brake caliper assembly LH.

NOTICE:
^ Hang the front disc brake caliper assembly with a rope or wire.
^ Do not damage the brake hose.

4. REMOVE FRONT DISC





5. REMOVE FRONT DISC BRAKE DUST COVER LH
(a) Remove the 4 bolts and front disc brake dust cover LH.
6. DISCONNECT TIE ROD ASSEMBLY LH





7. DISCONNECT FRONT NO. 1 SUSPENSION LOWER ARM ASSEMBLY LH
(a) Remove the clip and nut.
(b) Install 2 spacers (SST spacer A) onto the front No. 1 suspension lower arm assembly LH so that there is a space of approximately 1 mm between the arm and spacers.

NOTICE:
^ Make sure to install the spacers (SST spacer A) as the steering knuckle spacer may shift.
^ As SST may become damaged, make sure the space between the arm and spacers is not 1 mm or less.





(c) Using SST, disconnect the No. 1 suspension arm from the steering knuckle.

NOTICE:
^ Do not damage the dust cover.
^ As the dust cover may be damaged, adjust SST with the center nut so that the body and crow are parallel.
^ Make sure to tie the string of SST to the vehicle to prevent SST from dropping.





8. DISCONNECT FRONT HEIGHT CONTROL SENSOR SUB-ASSEMBLY LH
(a) Remove the bolt, and then remove the bracket of the front height control sensor LH.





9. REMOVE FRONT STABILIZER LINK ASSEMBLY LH
(a) Remove the 2 nuts and front stabilizer link assembly LH.

HINT: If the stud bolt turns with the nut, use a 6 mm hexagon wrench to hold the stud.





10. DISCONNECT FRONT SHOCK ABSORBER ASSEMBLY LH
(a) Remove the bolt and nut, and then disconnect the bottom side of the front shock absorber assembly LH from the front No. 2 suspension lower arm LH.
11. DISCONNECT FRONT NO. 2 SUSPENSION LOWER ARM ASSEMBLY LH

(a) Remove the clip and nut.
(b) Install 2 spacers (SST spacer A) onto the front No. 2 suspension lower arm assembly LH so that there is a space of approximately 1 mm between the arm and spacers.

NOTICE:
^ Make sure to install the spacers (SST spacer A) as the steering knuckle spacer may shift.
^ As SST may become damaged, make sure the space between the arm and spacers is not 1 mm or less.





(c) Using SST, disconnect the front No. 2 suspension lower arm from the steering knuckle.

NOTICE:
^ Do not damage the dust cover.
^ As the dust cover may be damaged, adjust SST with the center nut so that the body and crow are parallel.
^ Make sure to tie the string of SST to the vehicle to prevent SST from dropping.

12. REMOVE STEERING KNUCKLE SUB-ASSEMBLY LH
SST 09960-20010 (09961-02060, 09961-02010)





(a) Support the steering knuckle LH with a jack and wooden block.





(b) Remove the 2 clips and 2 nuts.
(c) Install 2 spacers (SST spacer B) onto the front No. 1 suspension upper arm assembly LH so that there is a space of approximately 1 mm between the arm and spacers.

NOTICE:
^ Make sure to install the spacers (SST spacer B) as the steering knuckle spacer may shift.
^ As SST may become damaged, make sure the space between the arm and spacers is not 1 mm or less.





(d) Using SST, disconnect the front No. 1 suspension upper arm from the steering knuckle.

NOTICE:
^ Do not damage the dust cover.
^ As the dust cover may be damaged, adjust SST with the center nut so that the body and crow are parallel.
^ Make sure to tie the string of SST to the vehicle to prevent SST from dropping.

(e) Install 2 spacers (SST spacer B) onto the front No. 2 suspension upper arm assembly LH so that there is a space of approximately 1 mm between the arm and spacers.

^ Make sure to install the spacers (SST spacer B) as the steering knuckle spacer may shift.
^ As SST may become damaged, make sure the space between the arm and spacers is not 1 mm or less.





(f) Using SST, disconnect the front No. 2 suspension upper arm from the steering knuckle.

NOTICE:
^ Do not damage the dust cover.
^ As the dust cover may be damaged, adjust SST with the center nut so that the body and crow are parallel.
^ Make sure to tie the string of SST to the vehicle to prevent SST from dropping.





13. REMOVE FRONT AXLE HUB SUB-ASSEMBLY LH
(a) Remove the 4 bolts and front axle hub from the steering knuckle.

INSTALLATION

HINT:
^ Use the same procedures for the RH side and LH side.
^ The procedures listed below are for the LH side.
^ A bolt without a torque specification is shown in the standard bolt chart.





1. INSTALL FRONT AXLE HUB SUB-ASSEMBLY LH
(a) Install the front axle hub to the steering knuckle with the 4 bolts.
Torque: 65 N*m (663 kgf*cm, 48 ft.*lbf)





2. INSTALL STEERING KNUCKLE SUB-ASSEMBLY LH
(a) Install the steering knuckle to the front No. 1 suspension upper arm LH and front No. 2 suspension upper arm LH with the nuts.
Torque: 60 N*m (612 kgf*cm, 44 ft.*lbf)
(b) Install new clips.

NOTICE: If it is necessary to align the holes for the clips after installing the nuts, the nuts can be tightened up to 60° more.





3. CONNECT FRONT NO. 2 SUSPENSION LOWER ARM ASSEMBLY LH
(a) Connect the front No. 2 suspension lower arm assembly LH to the steering knuckle with the nut.
Torque: 145 N*m (1479 kgf*cm, 107 ft.*lbf)
(b) Install a new clip.

NOTICE: If it is necessary to align the holes for the clip after installing the nut, the nut can be tightened up to 60° more.





4. CONNECT FRONT SHOCK ABSORBER ASSEMBLY LH
(a) Install the bottom side of the front shock absorber assembly LH to the No. 2 suspension lower arm LH.
Then insert the bolt from the rear of the vehicle and temporarily install it with the nut.
Torque: 108 N*m (1101 kgf*cm, 80 ft.*lbf)





5. INSTALL FRONT STABILIZER LINK ASSEMBLY LH
(a) Install the front stabilizer link with the 2 nuts.
Torque: 84 N*m (857 kgf*cm, 62 ft.*lbf)

HINT: If the ball joint turns together with the nut, use a hexagon (6 mm) wrench to hold the stud.





6. CONNECT FRONT HEIGHT CONTROL SENSOR SUB-ASSEMBLY LH
(a) Install the bracket of the front height control sensor LH to the front No. 2 suspension lower arm LH with the bolt.
Torque: 5.4 N*m (55 kgf*cm, 48 in.*lbf)





7. CONNECT FRONT NO. 1 SUSPENSION LOWER ARM ASSEMBLY LH
(a) Connect the No. 1 suspension lower arm to the steering knuckle with the nut.
Torque: 145 N*m (1479 kgf*cm, 107 ft.*lbf)
(b) Install a new clip.

NOTICE: If it is necessary to align the holes for the clip after installing the nut, the nut can be tightened up to 60° more.

8. CONNECT TIE ROD ASSEMBLY LH





9. INSTALL FRONT DISC BRAKE DUST COVER LH
(a) Install the front disc brake dust cover LH with the 4 bolts.
Torque: 8.0 N*m (82 kgf*cm, 71 in.*lbf)
10. INSTALL FRONT DISC





11. CONNECT FRONT DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY LH
(a) Install the front disc brake caliper assembly LH to the steering knuckle with the new 2 bolts.
Torque: 135 N*m (1377 kgf*cm, 100 ft.*lbf)

NOTICE:
^ Do not twist the flexible hose.
^ Make sure the screw parts are free from foreign matter and are not damaged.
^ Be careful not to overtighten the bolts, as the steering knuckle is made of aluminum.





(b) Connect the flexible hose to the steering knuckle with the bolt.
Torque: 20 N*m (204 kgf*cm, 15 ft.*lbf)
12. CONNECT SPEED SENSOR CONNECTOR
(a) Connect the speed sensor connector to the speed sensor.

NOTICE:
^ Do not damage the tip of the speed sensor.
^ Do not allow foreign matter to contact the tip or installation area of the speed sensor.
^ Do not twist the speed sensor wire.





(b) Install the speed sensor wire to the front No. 1 suspension lower arm with the 2 bolts.
Torque: 8.5 N*m (87 kgf*cm, 75 in.*lbf)
13. INSTALL FRONT WHEEL
Torque: 140 N*m (1428 kgf*cm, 103 ft.*lbf)
14. INSPECT AND ADJUST FRONT WHEEL ALIGNMENT
(a) Inspect and adjust the front wheel alignment.
15. CHECK ABS SPEED SENSOR SIGNAL
(a) Check the speed sensor signal.
16. VEHICLE PREPARATION FOR HEADLIGHT AIMING ADJUSTMENT
17. PREPARATION FOR HEADLIGHT AIMING (Using a screen)
18. HEADLIGHT AIMING INSPECTION
19. HEADLIGHT AIMING ADJUSTMENT
