Braking Sensor/Switch: Service and Repair
REMOVALNOTE: While the battery is connected, even if the engine switch is off, the brake control system activates when the brake pedal is depressed or the door courtesy switch turns on.
Therefore during servicing of the brake system components, do not operate the brake pedal and open/ close the doors while the battery is connected.
1. REMOVE COWL TOP VENTILATOR LOUVER RH
2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.
NOTE: After the engine switch is turned off, the HDD navigation system requires approximately 6 minutes to record various types of memory and settings. As a result, after turning the engine switch off, wait 6 minutes or more before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
3. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL END LH
4. REMOVE INSTRUMENT SIDE PANEL LH
5. REMOVE NO.1 INSTRUMENT CLUSTER MOULDING
6. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER
7. REMOVE WINDSHIELD WIPER SWITCH ASSEMBLY
8. REMOVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY
9. REMOVE NO.1 INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD SUB-ASSEMBLY
10. REMOVE NO.1 INSTRUMENT PANEL UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY
11. REMOVE DRIVER SIDE KNEE AIRBAG ASSEMBLY
12. REMOVE BRAKE PEDAL STROKE SENSOR ASSEMBLY
a. Remove the 2 bolts and sensor.
b. Disconnect the sensor connector.
INSTALLATION
NOTE: While the battery is connected, even if the engine switch is off, the brake control system activates when the brake pedal is depressed or the door courtesy switch turns on. Therefore during servicing of the brake system components, do not operate the brake pedal and open/ close the doors while the battery is connected.
1. INSTALL BRAKE PEDAL STROKE SENSOR ASSEMBLY
a. When installing a new brake pedal stroke sensor assembly:
NOTE:
- Do not break the sensor lever set pin before installing the brake pedal stroke sensor with the bolts.
- If the sensor lever set pin breaks while tightening the bolt, do not use that sensor.
1. Connect the sensor connector.
2. Install a new sensor with the 2 bolts.
Torque: 8.5 N.m (87 kgf.cm, 75 in.lbf)
NOTE:
- Engage the sensor lever with the brake pedal groove.
- Check that there is no foreign matter attached to the contact surface of the sensor.
- Check that the tip of the sensor lever is protruding from the brake pedal groove.
3. Firmly depress the brake pedal and break the sensor lever set pin.
4. Remove the broken lever set pin.
b. When reusing the brake pedal stroke sensor assembly:
1. Connect the sensor connector.
2. Temporarily install the sensor with the 2 bolts.
NOTE:
- Engage the sensor lever with the brake pedal groove.
- Check that there is no foreign matter attached to the contact surface of the sensor.
3. Connect the cable to the negative battery terminal.
4. Connect the intelligent tester or Techstream to the DLC3.
5. Turn the engine switch on (IG). Reading the value of the stroke sensor 1 shown on the data monitor, turn the sensor slowly to the right and left to adjust the output voltage to the standard voltage.
Standard voltage: 0.8 to 1.2 V
6. Tighten the 2 bolts.
Torque: 8.5 N.m (87 kgf.cm, 75 in.lbf)
NOTE: Do not depress the brake pedal after turning the engine switch on (IG).
2. INSTALL DRIVER SIDE KNEE AIRBAG ASSEMBLY
3. INSTALL NO.1 INSTRUMENT PANEL UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY
4. INSTALL NO.1 INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD SUB-ASSEMBLY
5. INSTALL INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY
6. INSTALL WINDSHIELD WIPER SWITCH ASSEMBLY
7. INSTALL STEERING COLUMN COVER
8. INSTALL NO.1 INSTRUMENT CLUSTER MOULDING
9. INSTALL INSTRUMENT SIDE PANEL LH
10. INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL END LH
11. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
12. INSTALL COWL TOP VENTILATOR LOUVER RH
13. CHECK SRS WARNING LIGHT
a. Check the SRS warning light.
14. CHECK AND CLEAR DTC
a. Check and clear the DTCs.
15. PERFORM LINEAR VALVE OFFSET LEARNING
a. Perform the linear valve offset learning.
16. PERFORM INITIALIZATION
a. Perform initialization.
NOTE: Certain systems need to be initialized after disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
