DESCRIPTION







DTC Detection Condition:







The electric VVT changes the valve timing according to the motor. In comparison to a conventional hydraulic VVT, the valve timing range is greater and the VVT operates even when the engine rpm is low or the engine is cold. As a result, it is possible to increase engine output and mileage.

The camshaft control timing motor is equipped with a self diagnostic function, which is used to output diagnosis signals (VTM) to the ECM.

This DTC is output when a valve timing stuck condition is detected. When the valve timing is in the advance angle position, if the valve timing does not vary, and there is a large difference in the target and actual valve timing, it is determined that a malfunction has occurred. When this malfunction is detected, a DTC is output immediately (1 trip detection logic). After the engine is warmed up, if the vehicle is idled for 5 minutes, a DTC is output.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

HINT:
- Intelligent tester or Techstream only:
By using the Active Test's MD VVT B1*1 or MD VVT B2*1 (Control the MD VVT Linear (Bank1) or Control the MD VVT Linear (Bank2))*2 function, it can be determined if the MD VVT system is malfunctioning.

a. Connect the intelligent tester or Techstream to the DLC3.
b. Turn the engine switch on (IG) and turn the tester ON.
c. Start the engine and warm it up.




d. Enter the following menus:
- Intelligent tester - Select: DIAGNOSIS / ENHANCED OBD II / ACTIVE TEST / MD VVT B1 or MD VVT B2 / PRIMARY / MD VVT AIM ANG1 and VVT CHNG ANG#1 or MD VVT AIM ANG2 and VVT CHNG ANG#2.
- Techstream - Select: Powertrain / Engine / Active Test / Control the MD VVT Linear (Bank1) or Control the MD VVT Linear (Bank2) / All Data / MD VVT Aim Angle (Bank1) and MD VVT Change Angle (Bank1) or MD VVT Aim Angle (Bank2) and MD VVT Change Angle (Bank2).

e. Perform the Active Test operation with the engine speed at 500 rpm.
- Read freeze frame data using the intelligent tester or Techstream. Freeze frame data records the engine condition when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air-fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.
