Removal and Replacement

STARTER

REMOVAL

1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
2. REMOVE COOL AIR INTAKE DUCT SEAL
3. REMOVE ENGINE ROOM SIDE COVER LH
4. REMOVE REAR NO.1 FLOOR PANEL BRACE
5. REMOVE FRONT CENTER FLOOR BRACE
6. DISCONNECT HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR
7. REMOVE FRONT EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY




8. REMOVE EXHAUST MANIFOLD SUB-ASSEMBLY LH
a. Remove the 2 bolts and ground cable.
b. Remove the bolt and engine wire bracket.




c. Remove the bolt and nut, and separate the engine room No.3 relay block.




d. Disconnect the air fuel ratio sensor (for sensor 1) connector.




e. Remove the 6 nuts, exhaust manifold and gasket.




9. REMOVE STARTER ASSEMBLY
a. Disconnect the terminal 50 connector from the starter assembly.
b. Detach the terminal cap.
c. Remove the nut and disconnect the wire harness from terminal 30.
d. Remove the 2 bolts and starter.

INSTALLATION




1. INSTALL STARTER ASSEMBLY
a. Install the starter with the 2 bolts.

Torque: 58 N.m (591 kgf.cm, 43 ft.lbf)

b. Connect the wire harness to terminal 30 and install the nut, and then attach the terminal cap.

Torque: 9.8 N.m (100 kgf.cm, 87 in.lbf)

c. Connect the terminal 50 connector to the starter assembly.




2. INSTALL EXHAUST MANIFOLD SUB-ASSEMBLY LH
a. Install a new gasket and the exhaust manifold with 6 new nuts.

Torque: 21 N.m (214 kgf.cm, 15 ft.lbf)




b. Connect the air fuel ratio sensor (for sensor 1) connector.




c. Install the engine room No.3 relay block with the bolt and nut.

Torque: 12.5 N.m (127 kgf.cm, 9 ft.lbf)




d. Install the engine wire bracket with the bolt (A).

Torque: 10 N.m (102 kgf.cm, 7 ft.lbf)

e. Install the ground cable with the 2 bolts (B, C).

Torque:
Bolt (B) 10 N.m (102 kgf.cm, 7 ft.lbf)
Bolt (C) 13 N.m (133 kgf.cm, 10 ft.lbf)

3. INSTALL FRONT EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY
4. INSTALL HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR
5. INSTALL FRONT CENTER FLOOR BRACE
6. INSTALL REAR NO.1 FLOOR PANEL BRACE
7. INSTALL ENGINE ROOM SIDE COVER LH
8. INSTALL COOL AIR INTAKE DUCT SEAL
9. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
10. CHECK FOR EXHAUST LEAKS
11. PERFORM INITIALIZATION
a. Perform initialization procedure.

HINT: Some vehicle systems require initialization after reconnecting the negative battery cable.
