a) Remove the 2 nuts and No.2 differential support protector from the suspension member brace.
4. SEPARATE NO.3 PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY
a) Remove the 2 bolts, and separate the No.3 parking brake cable.
5. REMOVE REAR AXLE SHAFT NUT
a) Using SST and a hammer, release the staked part of the axle shaft nut.
SST 09930-00010
NOTICE: Release the staked part of the nut completely, otherwise the threads of the drive shaft may be damaged.
b) While depressing the brake pedal, remove the axle shaft nut.
6. SEPARATE REAR SPEED SENSOR
a) Remove the 2 bolts, and separate the speed sensor from the axle carrier.
NOTICE:
^ Be careful not to damage the speed sensor.
^ Prevent foreign matter from adhering to the speed sensor.
7. SEPARATE REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY
a) Remove the 2 bolts, and disconnect the rear disc brake caliper assembly.
NOTICE: Use wire or equivalent to prevent the brake caliper from hanging down by the flexible hose.
b) Remove the No.1 caliper plates from the brake caliper.
8. REMOVE REAR DISC
9. SEPARATE NO.2 REAR UPPER CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY
10. SEPARATE NO.1 REAR UPPER CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY
11. SEPARATE NO.1 REAR SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY
12. SEPARATE NO.2 REAR SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY
13. SEPARATE REAR DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY
a) Push the rear axle carrier toward the outside of the vehicle. Using a plastic hammer, separate the rear drive shaft assembly from the rear axle carrier.
NOTICE:
^ Be careful not to damage the joint boot and speed sensor.
^ Do not push out the rear axle carrier excessively.
^ Use wire or equivalent to prevent the rear drive shaft assembly from hanging down.
14. REMOVE REAR DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY
a) Using SST, remove the rear drive shaft assembly
SST 09520-01010, 09520-24010 (09520-32040)
NOTICE:
^ Be careful not to damage the oil seal, inboard joint boot and drive shaft dust cover.
^ Be careful not to drop the drive shaft assembly.
15. INSPECT REAR DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY
INSPECTION
1. REMOVE REAR DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY
a) Check that there is no excessive play in the outboard joint.
b) Check that the inboard joint slides smoothly in the thrust direction.
c) Check that there is no excessive play in the radial directions of the inboard joint.
d) Check the boot for damage.
INSTALLATION
1. INSTALL REAR DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY
a) Coat the spline of the inboard joint shaft assembly with gear oil.
b) Set the shaft snap ring with the opening side facing down.
c) Align the shaft splines and install the drive shaft assembly with a brass bar and hammer.
NOTICE:
^ Be careful not to damage the drive shaft dust cover, boot and oil seal.
^ Move the drive shaft assembly while keeping it level.
HINT: It is possible to determine if the inboard joint shaft is properly engaged (the shaft is in contact with the pinion shaft, and the snap ring is engaged in the pinion gear) based on the sound or feeling when the shaft is driven in.
d) Install the rear drive shaft assembly to the rear axle carrier.
NOTICE: Be careful not to damage the drive shaft boot.
2. INSTALL NO.2 REAR UPPER CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY
3. TEMPORARILY TIGHTEN NO.1 REAR UPPER CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY
4. TEMPORARILY TIGHTEN NO.1 REAR SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY
5. TEMPORARILY TIGHTEN NO.2 REAR SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY
6. INSTALL REAR DISC
7. INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY
a) Install the rear disc brake caliper assembly and No.1 caliper plates with the 2 bolts.
Torque: 54 Nm (551 kgf-cm, 40 ft. lbs.)
NOTICE:
^ Do not twist the rear brake hose when installing the rear disc brake caliper.
^ Make sure that there are no foreign objects or damage to the threads.
^ Do not overtighten the bolts because the hub carrier is made of aluminum and may be damaged.
8. INSTALL REAR SPEED SENSOR
a) Install the speed sensor to the rear axle carrier with the 2 bolts.
Torque: Bolt (A) 8.5 Nm (87 kgf-cm, 75 inch lbs.)
Bolt (B) 6.0 Nm (61 kgf-cm, 53 inch lbs.)
NOTICE: Be careful not to damage the speed sensor. Prevent foreign matter from adhering to the speed sensor. Do not twist the sensor wire when installing the speed sensor.
9. INSTALL REAR AXLE SHAFT NUT
a) Install a new axle shaft nut.
Torque: 290 Nm (2,957 kgf-cm, 214 ft. lbs.)
b) Using a chisel and a hammer, stake the axle shaft nut.
10. INSTALL NO.3 PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY
a) Install the No.3 parking brake cable assembly with the 2 bolts.
Torque: 19 Nm (194 kgf-cm, 14 ft. lbs.)
