ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION
1. INSPECT SHIFT LEVER POSITION
a) When shifting from the P to R position with the engine switch on (IG) and the brake pedal depressed, make sure that the shift lever moves smoothly and moves correctly into the position.
b) Start the engine and make sure that the vehicle moves forward when shifting from the N to D position and moves rearward when shifting to the R position. If operation cannot be done as specified, inspect the park/neutral position switch assembly and check the shift lever assembly installation condition.

REMOVAL
1. REMOVE SHIFT LEVER KNOB SUB-ASSEMBLY
2. REMOVE UPPER NO.1 CONSOLE PANEL GARNISH
3. REMOVE UPPER NO.2 CONSOLE PANEL GARNISH
4. REMOVE CONSOLE PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY
5. REMOVE FRONT ASH RECEPTACLE SUBASSEMBLY
6. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX REGISTER ASSEMBLY
7. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX
8. REMOVE NO.2 CONSOLE BOX DUCT
9. REMOVE NO.1 REAR FLOOR PANEL BRACE
10. REMOVE FRONT CENTER FLOOR BRACE
11. REMOVE OXYGEN SENSOR
12. REMOVE FRONT EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY
13. REMOVE FRONT FLOOR NO.1 HEAT INSULATOR
14. REMOVE FLOOR SHIFT GEAR SHIFTING ROD SUBASSEMBLY





a) Remove the nut and separate the floor shift gear shifting rod sub-assembly

15. REMOVE TRANSMISSION FLOOR SHIFT ASSEMBLY





a) Disconnect the 2 connectors.
b) Remove the 4 bolts.
c) Remove the floor shift assembly.

DISASSEMBLY
1. REMOVE SHIFT POSITION INDICATOR





a) Remove the 4 screws and shift position indicator.

2. REMOVE TRANSMISSION CONTROL SWITCH





a) Remove the transmission control switch connector from the floor shift assembly





b) Remove the shift lever nut and lock pin from the floor shift assembly.
c) Remove the shift lever guide housing from the floor shift assembly.

NOTICE: First remove the shift lever nut and lock pin, then disengage the 2 claws.





d) Remove the transmission control switch from the shift lever guide housing.

3. REMOVE SHIFT LOCK CONTROL ECU SUB-ASSEMBLY





a) Remove the shift lever nut, and pull the pin.
b) Remove the shift lever sub-assembly





c) Remove the 2 screws and shift lock control ECU sub-assembly.

ADJUSTMENT
1. ADJUST SHIFT LEVER POSITION





a) Remove the nut and disconnect the shifting rod.





b) Turn the control shaft lever of the park/neutral position switch counterclockwise until it stops, and turn it clockwise 2 notches to set it to the N position.
c) Move the shift lever to the N position and tighten the nut while lightly pushing the lever toward the R position.

NOTICE: Do not push the shift lever too hard.

d) After adjustment, check that the shift lever moves smoothly and the shift lever and gear operate correctly

REASSEMBLY
1. INSTALL SHIFT LOCK CONTROL ECU SUB-ASSEMBLY





a) Install the shift lock control ECU sub-assembly with the 2 screws.

2. INSTALL TRANSMISSION CONTROL SWITCH





a) Install the shift lever with the pin and shift lever nut.





b) Apply MP grease to the hatched area of the shift lever guide housing as indicated in the illustration.





c) Install the transmission control switch to the shift lever guide housing.

NOTICE: Securely engage the claws.





d) Install the shift lever guide housing with the shift lever lock pin and a new shift lever nut.

NOTICE:
^ Install the shift lever nut and lock pin after first engaging the 2 claws.
^ Securely engage the claws.





e) Connect the transmission control switch connector to the floor shift assembly

3. INSTALL SHIFT POSITION INDICATOR





a) Install the shift position indicator to the console panel upper with the 4 screws.

INSTALLATION
1. INSTALL TRANSMISSION FLOOR SHIFT ASSEMBLY





a) Install the floor shift assembly with the 4 bolts.
Torque: 8.3 Nm (85 kgf-cm, 73 inch lbs.)
b) Connect the connector to the floor shift assembly

2. INSTALL FLOOR SHIFT GEAR SHIFTING ROD SUB-ASSEMBLY





a) Install the floor shift gear shifting rod sub-assembly with the nut.
Torque: 13 Nm (133 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.)

3. INSTALL FRONT FLOOR NO.1 HEAT INSULATOR
4. INSTALL FRONT EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY
5. INSTALL OXYGEN SENSOR
6. INSTALL FRONT CENTER FLOOR BRACE
7. INSTALL NO.1 REAR FLOOR PANEL BRACE
8. INSTALL NO.2 CONSOLE BOX DUCT
9. INSTALL CONSOLE BOX
10. INSTALL CONSOLE BOX REGISTER ASSEMBLY
11. INSTALL FRONT ASH RECEPTACLE SUBASSEMBLY
12. INSTALL CONSOLE PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY
13. INSTALL UPPER NO.2 CONSOLE PANEL GARNISH
14. INSTALL UPPER NO.1 CONSOLE PANEL GARNISH
15. INSTALL SHIFT LEVER KNOB SUB-ASSEMBLY
16. ADJUST SHIFT LEVER POSITION
17. INSPECT SHIFT LEVER POSITION
18. CHECK FOR EXHAUST GAS LEAKS
