Transmission Removal

AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY

Components:

REMOVAL
1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
2. REMOVE COOL AIR INTAKE DUCT SEAL
3. REMOVE ENGINE ROOM SIDE COVER LH
4. REMOVE ENGINE UNDER COVER
5. REMOVE NO.2 ENGINE UNDER COVER
6. DRAIN COOLANT
7. DRAIN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID
8. REMOVE NO.1 REAR FLOOR PANEL BRACE
9. REMOVE FRONT CENTER FLOOR BRACE
10. REMOVE OXYGEN SENSOR
11. REMOVE FRONT EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY
12. REMOVE FRONT FLOOR NO.1 HEAT INSULATOR
13. REMOVE OUTSIDE AIR GUIDE PLATE RH
14. REMOVE PROPELLER SHAFT WITH CENTER BEARING ASSEMBLY
15. REMOVE EXHAUST MANIFOLD SUB-ASSEMBLY LH
16. REMOVE STARTER ASSEMBLY
17. REMOVE FLYWHEEL HOUSING SIDE COVER

a) Remove the flywheel housing side cover from the engine assembly

18. REMOVE DRIVE PLATE & TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SETTING BOLT

a) Turn the crankshaft to gain access to each bolt.
b) Hold the crankshaft pulley nut with a wrench and remove the 6 torque converter clutch setting bolts.

19. REMOVE NO.1 EXHAUST PIPE SUPPORT BRACKET SUB-ASSEMBLY

a) Remove the 2 bolts and No.1 exhaust pipe support bracket sub-assembly from the automatic transmission assembly

20. SEPARATE FLOOR SHIFT GEAR SHIFTING ROD SUB-ASSEMBLY
a) Set the shift lever to the neutral position.

b) Remove the nut, and separate the floor shift gear shifting rod sub-assembly.

21. SUPPORT AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY

a) Support the automatic transmission assembly with a transmission jack.

22. REMOVE ENGINE REAR MOUNTING MEMBER

a) Remove the 4 bolts, and separate the engine rear mounting member from the body.

b) Remove the 4 nuts and engine rear mounting member from the automatic transmission assembly.

23. SEPARATE CONNECTOR

a) Tilt down the automatic transmission assembly.

b) Disconnect the park/neutral position start switch connector, transmission wire connector and 2 transmission revolution sensor connectors.

HINT: Disengage the claw, press down the lever, and then disconnect the transmission wire connector.

24. SEPARATE WIRE HARNESS

a) Remove the 2 bolts and separate the wire harness clamps from the automatic transmission assembly

25. SEPARATE WATER BY-PASS HOSE
a) Remove the bolt and water by-pass hose clamp.
b) Separate the 2 water by-pass hoses from the transmission oil cooler.

NOTICE: Use a container to catch any coolant which flows out of the water by-pass hoses.

26. REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY

a) Remove the 9 bolts and automatic transmission assembly.

NOTICE: Do not use excess force to pry on the transmission assembly.

27. REMOVE REAR NO.1 ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR

a) Remove the 4 bolts and rear No.1 engine mounting insulator from the automatic transmission assembly.

28. REMOVE TRANSMISSION CONTROL SHAFT LEVER RH

a) Remove the nut and transmission control shaft lever RH from the park/neutral position switch assembly.

29. REMOVE TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER

a) Remove the 3 bolts and transmission oil cooler from the automatic transmission assembly
b) Remove the 2 O-rings.

30. REMOVE TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH ASSEMBLY

a) Put matchmarks on the torque converter and transmission case.
b) Remove the torque converter from the automatic transmission assembly.

31. INSPECT TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH ASSEMBLY
