Front Propeller Shaft Assembly

FRONT PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY (for 4WD)

Components:





REMOVAL
1. REMOVE FRONT EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY
2. REMOVE FRONT PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY





a) Put matchmarks on the transfer companion flange and the front propeller shaft.





b) Using a screwdriver or equivalent, hold the transfer companion flange.
c) Using a socket hexagon wrench 6 mm, loosen the 6 bolts.

NOTICE: Be careful not to damage the front propeller shaft.





d) Put matchmarks on the front differential companion flange and the front propeller shaft.





e) Using a screwdriver or equivalent, hold the transfer companion flange.
f) Using a socket hexagon wrench 6 mm, loosen the 6 bolts.

NOTICE: Be careful not to damage the front propeller shaft.

g) Remove the 12 bolts, 4 universal joint washers and front propeller shaft assembly

INSPECTION
1. INSPECT FRONT PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY





a) Check that the propeller shaft is not cracked or damaged.
b) Check that there is no excessive play in the joint.

HINT: If necessary, replace the front propeller shaft assembly.

INSTALLATION
1. INSTALL FRONT PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY





a) Align the matchmarks on the transfer companion flange and the front propeller shaft.
b) Temporarily tighten the front propeller shaft with the 6 bolts and 2 universal joint washers.

HINT: If reusing the bolts, apply engine oil to the bolts before use.

c) Align the matchmarks on the differential companion flange and the front propeller shaft.





d) Temporarily tighten the front propeller shaft with the 6 bolts and 2 universal joint washers.

HINT: If reusing the bolts, apply engine oil to the bolts before use.





e) Using a screwdriver or equivalent, hold the transfer companion flange.
f) Using a socket hexagon wrench 6 mm, fully tighten the front propeller shaft with the 6 bolts.
Torque: 25 Nm (255 kgf-cm, 18 ft. lbs.)

NOTICE: Be careful not to damage the front propeller shaft.





g) Using a screwdriver or equivalent, hold the transfer companion flange.
h) Using a socket hexagon wrench 6 mm, fully tighten the front propeller shaft with the 6 bolts.
Torque: 25 Nm (255 kgf-cm, 18 ft. lbs.)

NOTICE: Be careful not to damage the front propeller shaft.

3. CHECK FOR EXHAUST GAS LEAKS
