Rear Upper No.2 Control Arm
REAR UPPER NO.2 CONTROL ARMComponents:
REMOVAL
1. REMOVE REAR WHEEL
2. REMOVE NO.2 DIFFERENTIAL SUPPORT PROTECTOR
3. SEPARATE REAR SHOCK ABSORBER WITH COIL SPRING
4. REMOVE REAR UPPER NO.2 CONTROL ARM
a) Remove the nut on the axle carrier side.
b) Using SST, separate the rear upper No.2 control arm.

NOTICE:
^ Securely tie the string of the SST to the vehicle.
^ Do not damage the dust cover.
^ Securely set the SST on the spacer of the axle carrier.
^ If the spacer of the axle carrier comes off, replace the axle carrier with a new one.
c) Remove the bolt, nut, washer, and rear upper No.2 control arm.
HINT: Push the axle carrier downward.
INSPECTION
1. INSPECT REAR UPPER NO.2 CONTROL ARM
a) Secure the toe control link in a vise between aluminum plates.
b) Temporarily install the nut, and flip the ball joint stud back and forth 5 times as shown in the illustration.
c) Use a torque wrench to turn the nut continuously at a rate of 3 to 5 seconds per turn. Take the torque reading on the 5th turn.
Turning torque: 0.5 to 3.4 Nm (5.1 to 34.7 kgf-cm, 0.4 to 2.5 ft. lbs.)
If the value is not within the specified range, replace the rear upper No.2 control arm with a new one.
d) Check the dust boot for cracks or grease leakage.
INSTALLATION
1. TEMPORARILY TIGHTEN REAR UPPER NO.2 CONTROL ARM
a) Install the stud of the rear upper No.2 control arm and temporarily tighten a new nut.
b) Install the rear upper control arm and temporarily tighten the bolt, nut, and washer.
HINT: Push the axle carrier downward.
c) Fully tighten the nut of the rear upper No.2 control arm.
Torque: 70 Nm (714 kgf-cm, 52 ft. lbs.)
2. TEMPORARILY TIGHTEN REAR SHOCK ABSORBER WITH COIL SPRING
3. TEMPORARILY TIGHTEN REAR STABILIZER LINK
4. STABILIZE SUSPENSION STABILIZE SUSPENSION
a) Jack up the axle carrier, with a wooden block placed between the jack and axle carrier, to apply a load to the suspension so that the rear drive shaft assembly becomes level.
5. FULLY TIGHTEN REAR UPPER NO.2 CONTROL ARM
6. FULLY TIGHTEN REAR SHOCK ABSORBER WITH COIL SPRING
7. FULLY TIGHTEN REAR STABILIZER LINK
8. INSTALL NO.2 DIFFERENTIAL SUPPORT PROTECTOR
9. INSTALL REAR WHEEL
10. INSPECT AND ADJUST REAR WHEEL ALIGNMENT
11. VEHICLE PREPARATION FOR HEADLIGHT AIM ADJUSTMENT
12. PREPARATION FOR HEADLIGHT AIMING (Using a tester)
13. PREPARATION FOR HEADLIGHT AIMING (Using a screen)
14. INSPECT HEADLIGHT AIMING
