Rear

REAR BRAKE

REMOVAL

HINT:
^ Use the same procedures for the RH side and LH side.
^ The procedures listed below are for the LH side.

1. REMOVE REAR WHEEL
2. DRAIN BRAKE FLUID

NOTICE: If brake fluid leaks onto any painted surface, wash off or remove the brake fluid completely.





3. REMOVE REAR DISC BRAKE PAD WITH ANTI-SQUEAL SHIMS
a. Remove the pin hold clip and disengage the engaged parts of anti-squeal spring.
b. Remove the 2 pad guide pins and anti-squeal spring.
c. Remove the 2 brake pads with the anti-squeal shims.
4. REMOVE ANTI-SQUEAL SHIM
a. Remove the 4 anti-squeal shims from each pad.





5. DISCONNECT REAR LH FLEXIBLE HOSE
a. Remove the union bolt and gasket from the rear disc brake cylinder assembly, then disconnect the flexible hose.





6. REMOVE NO. 1 REAR DISC BRAKE CYLINDER SUPPORT PIN
a. Remove the No. 1 cylinder support pin and tilt the disc brake cylinder assembly toward the rear of the vehicle.
7. REMOVE REAR DISC BRAKE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY
a. Remove the 2 bolts and cylinder assembly rear together with the caliper support bracket.
b. Remove the 2 No. 1 caliper plates from the caliper support bracket.

DISASSEMBLY





1. REMOVE CALIPER SUPPORT BRACKET
a. Remove the caliper support bracket from the rear cylinder assembly.
2. REMOVE REAR DISC BRAKE CYLINDER SLIDE BUSHING
a. Remove the cylinder slide bushing from the cylinder assembly rear.
3. REMOVE REAR DISC BRAKE BUSHING DUST BOOT
a. Remove the bushing dust boot from the cylinder assembly rear.





4. REMOVE REAR DISC BRAKE PISTON
a. Place a piece of cloth between the piston and the rear cylinder assembly.
b. Use compressed air to remove the piston from the rear cylinder assembly.

CAUTION: Do not place your fingers in front of the brake piston when using compressed air.

NOTICE: Do not spatter the brake fluid.

5. REMOVE CYLINDER BOOT
a. Remove the cylinder boot from the piston or rear cylinder assembly.





6. REMOVE PISTON SEAL
a. Using a screwdriver, remove the piston seal from the rear cylinder assembly.

NOTICE: Do not damage the inner cylinder and the cylinder groove.

HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before using.

7. REMOVE REAR DISC BRAKE BLEEDER PLUG CAP
8. REMOVE REAR DISC BRAKE BLEEDER PLUG





9. REMOVE REAR DISC
a. Put matchmarks on the rear disc and the axle hub.
b. Remove the read disc.
10. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE ADJUSTING HOLE PLUG

REASSEMBLY
1. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE ADJUSTING HOLE PLUG





2. INSTALL REAR DISC
a. Aligning the matchmarks, install the rear disc.

HINT: When replacing the rear disc with a new one, select the installation position where the rear disc has the minimum runout.

3. ADJUST PARKING BRAKE SHOE CLEARANCE
4. TEMPORARILY TIGHTEN REAR DISC BRAKE BLEEDER PLUG





5. INSTALL PISTON SEAL
a. Apply lithium soap base glycol grease to a new piston seal.
b. Install the piston seal to the cylinder assembly rear.
6. INSTALL CYLINDER BOOT
a. Apply lithium soap base glycol grease to the piston and a new cylinder boot.
b. Install the cylinder boot to the piston as shown in the illustration.





7. INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE PISTON
a. Install the cylinder boot to the cylinder assembly rear.

NOTICE: Install the boot securely to the grooves of the cylinder.

b. Push in the piston by hand and install the boot seal onto the grooves of the piston.

NOTICE: Install the boot sent securely onto the grooves of the piston.

8. INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE CYLINDER SLIDE BUSHING





a. Apply lithium soap base glycol grease to a new cylinder slide bushing.
b. Install the cylinder slide bushing to the rear cylinder assembly.

NOTICE: Install the cylinder slide bushing securely to the grooves of the rear cylinder assembly.

9. INSTALL REAR BRAKE BUSHING DUST BOOT





a. Apply lithium soap base glycol grease to a new bushing dust boot.
b. Install the bushing dust boot to the rear cylinder assembly.

NOTICE: Install the bushing dust boot securely to the grooves of the rear cylinder assembly.





10. INSTALL CALIPER SUPPORT BRACKET
a. Apply lithium soap base glycol grease to the caliper support bracket.
b. Install the caliper support bracket to the rear cylinder assembly.

NOTICE: Install the bushing dust boot securely to the grooves of the caliper support bracket.

INSTALLATION





1. INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY LH
a. Install 2 new No. 1 caliper plates to the caliper support bracket.
b. Install the cylinder assembly rear together with the caliper support bracket with the 2 bolts.
Torque: 54 Nm (551 kgf-cm, 40 ft. lbs.)





2. INSTALL NO. 1 REAR DISC BRAKE CYLINDER SUPPORT PIN
a. Install the rear cylinder assembly with the cylinder slide pin.
Torque: 25 Nm (250 kgf-cm, 18 ft. lbs.)





3. INSTALL ANTI-SQUEAL SHIM KIT REAR (for 2GR-FSE)
a. Apply disc brake grease to both sides of the 2 anti-squeal shims.
b. Install the 4 anti-squeal shims to each of the 2 brake pads.

NOTICE:
^ When replacing worn pads, the anti-squeal shims must be replaced together with the pads.
^ Install the anti-squeal shims in the correct positions and directions.





4. INSTALL ANTI-SQUEAL SHIM (for 4GR-FSE)
a. Apply disc brake grease to both sides of the 2 No. 1 anti-squeal shim.
b. Install the 4 anti-squeal shims to each of the 2 brake pads.

NOTICE:
^ When replacing worn pads, the anti-squeal shims must be replaced together with the pads.
^ Install the anti-squeal shims in the correct positions and directions.





5. INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE PAD WITH ANTI-SQUEAL SHIMS
a. Install the 2 brake pads with the anti-squeal shims to the rear cylinder assembly.
b. Install the 2 pad guide pins, anti-squeal spring and pin hold clip as shown in the illustration.

NOTICE: Make sure that the engaged parts of the anti squeal spring are installed correctly.





6. CONNECT REAR LH FLEXIBLE HOSE
a. Connect the flexible hose with the union bolt and a new gasket.

Torque: 30 Nm (310 kgf-cm, 22 ft. lbs.)

NOTICE: Install the flexible hose lock securely in the lock hole in the rear disc brake cylinder assembly.

7. FILL RESERVOIR WITH BRAKE FLUID
8. BLEED BRAKE LINE
9. BLEED BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY
10. CHECK BRAKE FLUID LEVEL
11. INSPECT FOR CHECK BRAKE LEAKAGE
12. INSTALL REAR WHEEL
Torque: 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.)
