Removal and Replacement

Starter:

STARTER

REMOVAL

1. DISCHARGE FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE
2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.

3. DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT

4. REMOVE V-BANK COVER ASSEMBLY
a. Remove the 2 nuts and cover.

5. REMOVE COOL AIR INTAKE DUCT SEAL

6. REMOVE AIR CLEANER INLET
a. Remove the bolt and inlet.

7. REMOVE ENGINE ROOM SIDE COVER RH
8. REMOVE ENGINE ROOM SIDE COVER LH
9. REMOVE INTAKE AIR CONNECTOR PIPE
10. REMOVE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY
11. REMOVE NO. 4 V-BANK COVER BRACKET
12. REMOVE V-BANK COVER BRACKET
13. REMOVE PURGE VSV
14. REMOVE NO. 2 V-BANK COVER BRACKET
15. REMOVE NO. 3 V-BANK COVER BRACKET
16. REMOVE ENGINE WIRE

17. REMOVE NO. 2 FUEL PIPE SUB-ASSEMBLY
a. Remove the No. 2 fuel pipe.

18. REMOVE INTAKE MANIFOLD SUB-ASSEMBLY
19. REMOVE REAR WATER BY-PASS JOINT
20. REMOVE WATER BY-PASS PIPE SUB-ASSEMBLY

21. REMOVE STARTER ASSEMBLY

a. Remove the 2 bolts that hold the starter to the cylinder block.

b. Disconnect the starter connector.
c. Detach the terminal cap.
d. Remove the nut and disconnect the starter cable.
e. Remove the bolt and disconnect the starter cable protector and remove the starter.

INSTALLATION

1. INSTALL STARTER ASSEMBLY

a. Connect the starter cable with the nut.

Torque: 9.8 N.m (100 kgf.cm, 87 in.lbf)

HINT: If coolant has accumulated on the cylinder block, wipe it off with a clean cloth.

b. Install the starter cable protector with the bolt.

Torque: 9.8 N.m (100 kgf.cm, 87 in.lbf)

c. Attach the terminal cap.
d. Connect the starter connector.

e. Install the starter with the 2 bolts.

Torque: 37 N.m (377 kgf.cm, 27 ft.lbf)

2. INSTALL WATER BY-PASS PIPE SUB-ASSEMBLY
3. INSTALL REAR WATER BY-PASS JOINT
4. INSTALL INTAKE MANIFOLD

5. INSTALL NO. 2 FUEL PIPE SUB-ASSEMBLY
a. Install the No. 2 fuel pipe.

6. CONNECT ENGINE WIRE
7. INSTALL NO. 3 V-BANK COVER BRACKET
8. INSTALL NO. 2 V-BANK COVER BRACKET
9. INSTALL PURGE VSV
10. INSTALL V-BANK COVER BRACKET
11. INSTALL NO. 4 V-BANK COVER BRACKET
12. INSTALL THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY
13. INSTALL INTAKE AIR CONNECTOR PIPE
14. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

15. CHECK FOR FUEL LEAKS
a. Check for fuel leaks.

16. ADD ENGINE COOLANT

17. CHECK FOR COOLANT LEAKS
a. Check for coolant leaks.

18. REMOVE ENGINE ROOM SIDE COVER LH
19. REMOVE ENGINE ROOM SIDE COVER RH

20. REMOVE AIR CLEANER INLET
a. Install the inlet with the bolt.

Torque: 5.0 N.m (51 kgf.cm, 44 in.lbf)

21. REMOVE COOL AIR INTAKE DUCT SEAL

22. INSTALL V-BANK COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY
a. Install the cover with the 2 nuts.

Torque: 5.0 N.m (51 kgf.cm, 44 in.lbf)

23. PERFORM INITIALIZATION
a. Perform initialization.

NOTE: Certain systems need to be initialized after disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
