FLOOR SHIFT ASSEMBLY

ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION
1. INSPECT SHIFT LEVER POSITION
(a) When shifting from the P to the R position with the engine switch on (IG) and brake pedal depressed, make sure that the shift lever moves smoothly and moves correctly into position.
(b) Start the engine and make sure that the vehicle moves forward when shifting from the N to the D position and moves rearward when shifting to the R position.
If operation cannot be done as specified, inspect the park/neutral position switch assembly and check the shift lever assembly installation condition.

REMOVAL
1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.





2. REMOVE SHIFT LEVER KNOB SUB-ASSEMBLY
3. REMOVE FRONT CONSOLE UPPER PANEL GARNISH
4. REMOVE CONSOLE UPPER PANEL ASSEMBLY
5. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL END LH
6. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL END RH
7. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX PLATE
8. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX REGISTER ASSEMBLY
9. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX
10. REMOVE NO. 2 CONSOLE BOX DUCT
11. REMOVE ENGINE NO. 2 UNDER COVER
12. REMOVE FRONT EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the front exhaust pipe.
13. REMOVE FRONT FLOOR NO. 1 HEAT INSULATOR
14. DISCONNECT FLOOR SHIFT GEAR SHIFTING ROD SUB-ASSEMBLY
(a) Move the shift lever to the N position.





(b) Remove the nut and disconnect the floor shift gear shifting rod.
15. REMOVE FLOOR SHIFT ASSEMBLY
(a) Disconnect the 2 connectors.
(b) Disconnect the 6 clamps.





(c) Remove the 4 bolts.
(d) Remove the floor shift assembly.

DISASSEMBLY
1. REMOVE SHIFT LOCK RELEASE BUTTON COVER
(a) Using a screwdriver, remove the shift lock release button cover.





2. REMOVE POSITION INDICATOR HOUSING UPPER
(a) Disconnect the indicator light wire from the shift lever plate.
(b) Using a screwdriver, remove the position indicator housing upper.





3. REMOVE POSITION INDICATOR LENS
(a) Using a screwdriver, remove the position indicator lens from the position indicator housing upper.
4. REMOVE INDICATOR LIGHT WIRE SUB-ASSEMBLY





(a) Remove the indicator light wire from the position indicator housing lower.
(b) Remove the position indicator bulb from the indicator light wire.
(c) Remove the position indicator bulb cap from the position indicator bulb.





(d) Disconnect the transmission control switch connector from the floor shift.





(e) Using a screwdriver, disengage the locking lug of terminals (4) and (8), and pull the terminals out from the rear.





5. REMOVE SHIFT LOCK RELEASE BUTTON
(a) Remove the shift lock release button and spring from the floor shift.





6. REMOVE POSITION INDICATOR SLIDE COVER
(a) Remove the position indicator slide cover from the shift lever guide housing.
(b) Remove the No. 2 position indicator slide cover from the position indicator slide cover.
7. REMOVE SHIFT LOCK CONTROL ECU SUB-ASSEMBLY





(a) Remove the shift lever nut and lock pin from the floor shift assembly.
(b) Remove the shift lever guide housing from the floor shift assembly.

NOTICE: First remove the shift lever nut and lock pin, then disengage the 2 claws.





(c) Remove the 2 screws and shift lock control ECU.





8. REMOVE POSITION INDICATOR LOWER HOUSING
(a) Remove the position indicator lower housing from the shift lever guide housing.





9. REMOVE TRANSMISSION CONTROL SWITCH
(a) Remove the transmission control switch from the shift lever guide housing.

INSPECTION
1. INSPECT TRANSMISSION CONTROL SWITCH
(a) Connect the park/neutral position switch connector.
(b) Disconnect the transmission control switch connector from the shift lock control unit assembly.





(c) Measure resistance according to the value(s) in the table when the shift lever is moved to each position.

Standard resistance:





ADJUSTMENT
1. ADJUST SHIFT LEVER POSITION





(a) Remove the nut and disconnect the shifting rod.





(b) Turn the control shaft lever of the park/neutral position switch counterclockwise until it stops, and turn it clockwise 2 notches to set it to the N position.
(c) Move the shift lever to the N position and tighten the nut while lightly pushing the lever toward the R position.
Torque: 13 N*m (133 kgf*cm, 10 ft.*lbf)

NOTICE: Do not push the shift lever too hard.

(d) After adjustment, check that the shift lever moves smoothly and the shift lever and gear operate correctly.

REASSEMBLY





1. INSTALL TRANSMISSION CONTROL SWITCH
(a) Install the transmission control switch to the shift lever guide housing.

HINT: Securely engage the claws.





2. INSTALL POSITION INDICATOR LOWER HOUSING
(a) Install the position indicator housing lower to the shift lever guide housing.

HINT: Securely engage the claws.

3. INSTALL SHIFT LOCK CONTROL ECU SUB-ASSEMBLY





(a) Apply MP grease to the hatched area of the shift lever guide housing as indicated in the illustration.





(b) Install the shift lock control ECU with the 2 screws.





(c) Install the shift lever guide housing with the shift lever lock pin and a new shift lever nut.

NOTICE:
^ Install the shift lever nut and lock pin after first engaging the 2 claws.
^ Securely engage the claws.





4. INSTALL POSITION INDICATOR SLIDE COVER
(a) Install the No. 2 position indicator slide cover to the position indicator slide cover.
(b) Install the position indicator slide cover to the shift lever guide housing.





5. INSTALL SHIFT LOCK RELEASE BUTTON
(a) Install the shift lock release button and spring to the floor shift.

HINT: Securely engage the claws.

6. INSTALL INDICATOR LIGHT WIRE SUB-ASSEMBLY





(a) Securely connect the 2 terminals of the indicator light wire harness to the transmission control switch connector.
(b) Install the position indicator bulb to the indicator light wire.
(c) Install the position indicator bulb cap to the position indicator bulb.





(d) Install the indicator light wire to the position indicator lower housing.

NOTICE: Make sure that the indicator light wire is securely installed to the position indicator lens.





(e) Connect the transmission control switch connector to the floor shift.





7. INSTALL POSITION INDICATOR LENS
(a) Install the position indicator lens to the position indicator upper housing.

HINT: Securely engage the claws.





8. INSTALL POSITION INDICATOR UPPER HOUSING
(a) Install the position indicator housing upper to the shift lever guide housing.

HINT: Securely engage the claws.

9. INSTALL SHIFT LOCK RELEASE BUTTON COVER
(a) Install the shift lock release button cover to the position indicator upper housing.

INSTALLATION





1. INSTALL FLOOR SHIFT ASSEMBLY
(a) Install the floor shift with the 4 bolts.
Torque: 8.3 N*m (85 kgf*cm, 73 in.*lbf)
(b) Connect the 2 connectors to the floor shift.
(c) Connect the 6 clamps.





2. CONNECT FLOOR SHIFT GEAR SHIFTING ROD SUB-ASSEMBLY
(a) Temporarily tighten the floor shift gear shifting rod with the nut.

HINT: The rod is tightened to a torque specification in the "ADJUST SHIFT LEVER POSITION" procedure.

3. ADJUST SHIFT LEVER POSITION
4. INSTALL FRONT FLOOR NO. 1 HEAT INSULATOR
5. INSTALL FRONT EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY
(a) Install the front exhaust pipe.
6. INSTALL NO. 2 ENGINE UNDER COVER
7. INSTALL NO. 2 CONSOLE BOX DUCT
8. INSTALL CONSOLE BOX
9. INSTALL CONSOLE BOX REGISTER ASSEMBLY
10. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX PLATE
11. INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL END LH
12. INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL END RH
13. INSTALL CONSOLE UPPER PANEL ASSEMBLY
14. INSTALL FRONT CONSOLE UPPER PANEL GARNISH





15. INSTALL SHIFT LEVER KNOB SUB-ASSEMBLY
16. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
17. INSPECT SHIFT LEVER POSITION
18. PERFORM INITIALIZATION
(a) Perform initialization.

NOTICE: Certain systems need to be initialized after disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
