Front Stabilizer Bar
FRONT STABILIZER BAR (for 2WD)COMPONENTS:
REMOVAL
1. REMOVE FRONT WHEEL
2. REMOVE FRONT STABILIZER LINK ASSEMBLY LH
(a) Remove the 2 nuts and the front stabilizer link assembly LH.
HINT:
If the ball joint turns together with the nut, use a hexagon (6 mm) wrench to hold the stud.
3. REMOVE FRONT STABILIZER LINK ASSEMBLY RH
HINT:
Remove the RH side following the same procedures as with the LH side.
4. REMOVE ENGINE UNDER COVER REAR LH
(a) Remove the bolt and engine under cover LH.
5. REMOVE ENGINE UNDER COVER REAR RH
HINT:
Remove the RH side following the same procedures as with the LH side.
6. REMOVE FRONT STABILIZER NO.2 BRACKET LH
(a) Remove the 2 bolts and the front stabilizer No.2 bracket LH from the front suspension crossmember.
7. REMOVE FRONT STABILIZER NO.2 BRACKET RH
HINT:
Remove the RH side following the same procedures as with the LH side.
8. REMOVE FRONT STABILIZER NO.1 BRACKET LH
(a) Remove the 4 bolts and the front stabilizer No.1 bracket LH from the frame.
9. REMOVE FRONT STABILIZER NO.1 BRACKET RH
HINT:
Remove the RH side following the same procedures as with the LH side.
10. REMOVE FRONT STABILIZER BAR NO.1 BUSH
(a) Remove the 2 front stabilizer bar No.1 bush from the front stabilizer bar.
11. REMOVE FRONT STABILIZER BAR
(a) Remove the front stabilizer bar from the vehicle.
INSPECTION
1. INSPECT FRONT STABILIZER LINK ASSEMBLY
(a) Flip the ball joint stud back and forth 5 times as shown in the illustration.
(b) Temporarily install the nut, use a torque wrench to turn the nut continuously at a rate of 2 to 4 seconds per turn. Take the torque reading on the 5th turn.
Turning torque: 1.96 N*m (20 kgf*cm, 17.4 in.*lbf) or less
(c) Check the dust cover for cracks or grease leakage. If the value is not within the specified range, replace the front stabilizer link assembly with a new one.
INSTALLATION
1. INSTALL FRONT STABILIZER BAR
(a) Install the front stabilizer bar to the vehicle.
NOTICE:
The identification mark must be on the right side of the vehicle when installing the front stabilizer bar.
2. INSTALL FRONT STABILIZER BAR NO.1 BUSH
(a) Install the 2 front stabilizer bar No.1 bush outside of the bush stoppers on the front stabilizer bar as shown in the illustration.
NOTICE:
Be sure to install the front stabilizer bar No.1 bush so that the cutouts face the front of the vehicle.
3. INSTALL FRONT STABILIZER NO.1 BRACKET LH
(a) Temporarily install the front stabilizer No.1 bracket LH to the side member with the 4 bolts.
(b) Tighten the bolt (A) while pressing the front stabilizer No.1 bracket LH.
(c) Tighten the 4 bolts to the specified torque in the order shown in the illustration.
Torque: 49 N*m (500 kgf*cm, 36 ft.*lbf)
4. INSTALL FRONT STABILIZER NO.1 BRACKET RH
HINT:
Install the RH side following the same procedures as with the LH side.
5. INSTALL FRONT STABILIZER NO.2 BRACKET LH
(a) Install the front stabilizer No.2 bracket LH on the vehicle with the 2 bolts.
Torque: 49 N*m (500 kgf*cm, 36 ft.*lbf)
6. INSTALL FRONT STABILIZER NO.2 BRACKET RH
HINT:
Install the RH side following the same procedures as with the LH side.
7. INSTALL ENGINE UNDER COVER REAR LH
(a) Install the engine under cover LH with the bolt.
8. INSTALL ENGINE UNDER COVER REAR RH
HINT:
Install the RH side following the same procedures as with the LH side.
9. INSTALL FRONT STABILIZER LINK ASSEMBLY LH
(a) Install the front stabilizer link assembly LH with the 2 nuts.
Torque: 84 N*m (857 kgf*cm, 62 ft.*lbf)
HINT:
If the ball joint turns together with the nut, use a hexagon (6 mm) wrench to hold the stud.
10. INSTALL FRONT STABILIZER LINK ASSEMBLY RH
HINT:
Install the RH side following the same procedures as with the LH side.
11. INSTALL ENGINE UNDER COVER
12. INSTALL FRONT WHEEL
Torque: 103 N*m (1,050 kgf*cm, 76 ft.*lbf)
13. INSPECT AND ADJUST FRONT WHEEL ALIGNMENT
