Removal and Replacement

STARTER

REMOVAL

1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.

2. REMOVE COOL AIR INTAKE DUCT SEAL
3. REMOVE ENGINE ROOM SIDE COVER LH
4. REMOVE ENGINE ROOM SIDE COVER RH
5. REMOVE V-BANK COVER

6. DISCONNECT NO. 2 RELAY BLOCK
a. Remove the bolt, nut and disconnect the No. 2 relay block.

7. REMOVE FRONT CONSOLE UPPER PANEL GARNISH
8. REMOVE CONSOLE UPPER PANEL ASSEMBLY
9. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL END RH
10. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL END LH
11. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX PLATE
12. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX REGISTER ASSEMBLY (for 4WD)
13. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX (for 4WD)

14. REMOVE FRONT SEAT ASSEMBLY LH (for 4WD)
a. Remove the front seat LH.

15. REMOVE ENGINE UNDER COVER (for 2WD)
16. REMOVE ENGINE UNDER COVER (for 4WD)
17. REMOVE NO. 2 ENGINE UNDER COVER (for 2WD)
18. REMOVE REAR ENGINE UNDER COVER LH (for 2WD)
19. REMOVE REAR ENGINE UNDER COVER RH (for 2WD)

20. REMOVE FRONT EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY
a. Remove the front exhaust pipe.

21. REMOVE FRONT PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY (for 4WD)

22. REMOVE EXHAUST MANIFOLD SUB-ASSEMBLY LH

a. Remove the 2 bolts and ground cable.
b. Remove the bolt and engine wire bracket.

c. Disconnect the sensor connector.

d. Remove the 6 nuts, manifold and gasket.

23. REMOVE STARTER ASSEMBLY
a. Disconnect the starter connector.
b. Detach the terminal cap.
c. Remove the nut and disconnect the starter cable.
d. Remove the 2 bolts and starter.

INSTALLATION

1. INSTALL STARTER ASSEMBLY
a. Install the starter with the 2 bolts.

Torque: 58 N.m (591 kgf.cm, 43 ft.lbf)

b. Connect the starter cable with the nut, and then attach the terminal cap.

Torque: 9.8 N.m (100 kgf.cm, 87 in.lbf)

c. Connect the starter connector.

2. INSTALL EXHAUST MANIFOLD SUB-ASSEMBLY LH

a. Install a new gasket.

b. Install the exhaust manifold to the cylinder head with the 6 nuts in the order shown in the illustration.

Torque: 21 N.m (214 kgf.cm, 15 ft.lbf)

NOTE: Do not damage the stud bolt when installing the exhaust manifold.

c. Connect the sensor connector.

d. Install the engine wire bracket with the bolt.

Torque: 10 N.m (102 kgf.cm, 7 ft.lbf)

e. Install the ground cable with the 2 bolts.

Torque:
10 N.m (102 kgf.cm, 7 ft.lbf) for Cylinder head
13 N.m (133 kgf.cm, 10 ft.lbf) for Body

3. INSTALL FRONT EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY
a. Install the front exhaust pipe.

4. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
5. CHECK FOR EXHAUST GAS LEAKS
6. INSTALL FRONT PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY (for 4WD)
7. INSTALL REAR ENGINE UNDER COVER RH (for 2WD)
8. INSTALL REAR ENGINE UNDER COVER LH (for 2WD)
9. INSTALL NO. 2 ENGINE UNDER COVER (for 2WD)
10. INSTALL ENGINE UNDER COVER (for 4WD)
11. INSTALL ENGINE UNDER COVER (for 2WD)

12. INSTALL FRONT SEAT ASSEMBLY LH (for 4WD)
a. Install the front seat LH.

13. INSTALL CONSOLE BOX (for 4WD)
14. INSTALL CONSOLE BOX REGISTER ASSEMBLY (for 4WD)
15. INSTALL CONSOLE BOX PLATE
16. INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL END LH
17. INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL END RH
18. INSTALL CONSOLE UPPER PANEL ASSEMBLY
19. INSTALL FRONT CONSOLE UPPER PANEL GARNISH

20. CONNECT NO. 2 RELAY BLOCK
a. Connect the No. 2 relay block with the bolt and nut.

Torque: 12 N.m (125 kgf.cm, 10 ft.lbf)

21. INSTALL V-BANK COVER
22. INSTALL ENGINE ROOM SIDE COVER RH
23. INSTALL ENGINE ROOM SIDE COVER LH
24. INSTALL COOL AIR INTAKE DUCT SEAL

25. PERFORM INITIALIZATION
a. Perform initialization.

NOTE: Certain systems need to be initialized after disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
