Component Tightening Specifications and Sequences

CYLINDER HEAD (for Bank 1)

If a stud bolt is deformed or the threads are damaged, replace it.

The cylinder head bolts are tightened in 3 progressive steps.





Step 1:
Using a 10 mm bi-hexagon wrench, install and uniformly tighten the 8 cylinder head bolts with the plate washers in several steps, in the sequence shown in the illustration.
Torque 36 N*m (367 kgf*cm, 27 ft.*lbf)





Step 2:
Mark the cylinder head bolt heads with paint as shown in the illustration.
Tighten the cylinder head bolts another 90° in the sequence shown in step 1.

Step 3:
Tighten the cylinder head bolts by an additional 90° in the sequence shown in step 1.
Check that the painted marks are now facing rearward.


CYLINDER HEAD (for Bank 2)

If a stud bolt is deformed or the threads are damaged, replace it.

The cylinder head bolts are tightened in 3 progressive steps.





Step 1:
Using a 10 mm bi-hexagon wrench, install and uniformly tighten the 8 cylinder head bolts with the plate washers in several steps, in the sequence shown in the illustration.
Torque 36 N*m (367 kgf*cm, 27 ft.*lbf)





Step 2:
Mark the cylinder head bolt heads with paint as shown in the illustration.
Tighten the cylinder head bolts another 90° in the sequence shown in step 1.

Step 3:
Tighten the cylinder head bolts by an additional 90° in the sequence shown in step 1.
Check that the painted marks are now facing rearward.





Install the 2 bolts in the order shown in the illustration.
Torque 30 N*m (306 kgf*cm, 22 ft.*lbf)


CAMSHAFT BEARING CAP (for Bank 1)





Uniformly install the 9 bolts in several steps in the order shown in the illustration.
Torque 10 N*m (102 kgf*cm, 7 ft.*lbf)


CAMSHAFT BEARING CAP (for Bank 2)





Uniformly install the 8 bolts in several steps in the order shown in the illustration.
Torque 10 N*m (102 kgf*cm, 7 ft.*lbf)


MAIN BEARING CAP

The main bearing cap bolts are tightened in 2 progressive steps.





Step 1:
Install and uniformly tighten the 16 main bearing cap bolts in the sequence shown in the illustration.
Torque 61 N*m (622 kgf*cm, 45 ft.*lbf)
If any of the main bearing cap bolts does not meet the specified torque, replace it.





Step 2:
Mark the front of the bearing cap bolts with paint.
Tighten the bearing cap bolts another 90° in the order shown in step 1.
Check that the painted marks are now at a 90° angle to the front.
Check that the crankshaft turns smoothly.





Install and uniformly tighten the 8 main bearing cap bolts in several steps, in the sequence shown in the illustration.
Torque 26 N*m (265 kgf*cm, 19 ft.*lbf)


CONNECTING ROD CAP

The connecting rod cap bolts are tightened in 2 progressive steps.





Step 1:
Install and alternately tighten the bolts of the connecting rod cap in several steps.
Torque 40 N*m (408 kgf*cm, 30 ft.*lbf)





Step 2:
Mark the front side of each connecting rod cap bolt with paint.
Tighten the cap bolts another 90° in the order in step 1.
Check that the painted marks are now at a 90° angle to the front.


CRANKSHAFT PULLEY
Torque 250 N*m (2549 kgf*cm, 184 ft.*lbf)


DRIVE PLATE





Tighten the 8 bolts uniformly in several steps in the order shown in the illustration.
Torque 83 N*m (850 kgf*cm, 61 ft.*lbf)


OIL PUMP





Install the oil pump cover with the 8 bolts.
Torque 9.1 N*m (93 kgf*cm, 81 in.*lbf)


EXHAUST MANIFOLD LH





Install the exhaust manifold to the cylinder head with the 6 nuts in the order shown in the illustration.
Torque 21 N*m (214 kgf*cm, 15 ft.*lbf)


EXHAUST MANIFOLD RH





Install the exhaust manifold to the cylinder head with the 6 nuts in the order shown in the illustration.
Torque 21 N*m (214 kgf*cm, 15 ft.*lbf)


WATER PUMP





Install a new gasket and the water pump with the 16 bolts.
Torque for bolt A 21 N*m (214 kgf*cm, 15 ft.*lbf)
Torque for bolt B and C 9.1 N*m (93 kgf*cm, 81 in.*lbf)
