65. SEPARATE FRONT SHOCK ABSORBER ASSEMBLY RH (for 4WD)

HINT: Perform the same procedure as for the LH side.

72. SEPARATE FRONT LOWER BALL JOINT ASSEMBLY LH (for 2WD)
(a) Remove the 2 bolts and separate the lower ball joint from the steering knuckle.

HINT: Perform the same procedure as for the LH side.





74. SEPARATE FRONT LOWER BALL JOINT ASSEMBLY LH (for 4WD)
(a) Remove the 2 bolts and separate the lower ball joint from the steering knuckle.

75. SEPARATE FRONT LOWER BALL JOINT RH (for 4WD)

HINT: Perform the same procedure as for the LH side.

76. REMOVE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY LH (for 4WD)

78. SEPARATE FLOOR SHIFT GEAR SHIFTING ROD SUB-ASSEMBLY (for 2WD)

80. REMOVE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION (for 2WD)
(a) Set an engine lifter.





(b) Remove the 4 bolts, and separate the engine rear mounting member.





(c) Remove the 10 bolts and 2 nuts as shown in the illustration.
(d) Operate the engine lifter, then slowly remove the engine from the vehicle.

NOTICE: Make sure the engine is clear of all wiring and hoses.





(e) Install the 2 engine hangers with the 4 bolts as shown in the illustration.

Part No.:





Torque: 33 N*m (336 kgf*cm, 24 ft.*lbf)
(f) Attach an engine sling device and hang the engine with a chain block.

81. REMOVE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION (for 4WD)
(a) Set an engine lifter.





(b) Remove the 4 bolts, and separate the engine rear mounting member.





(c) Remove the 6 bolts and 2 nuts as shown in the illustration.
(d) Operate the engine lifter, then slowly remove the engine from the vehicle.

NOTICE: Make sure the engine is clear of all wiring and hoses.





(e) Install the 2 engine hangers with the 4 bolts as shown in the illustration.

Part No.:





Torque: 33 N*m (336 kgf*cm, 24 ft.*lbf)
(f) Attach an engine sling device and hang the engine with a chain block.

82. REMOVE OIL DIPSTICK GUIDE (for 2WD)





(a) Remove the dipstick.
(b) Remove the bolt and No. 2 guide.





(c) Remove the bolt and No. 1 guide.
(d) Remove the 2 O-rings from the dipstick guides.

83. REMOVE OIL DIPSTICK GUIDE (for 4WD)





(a) Remove the dipstick.
(b) Remove the bolt and No. 2 guide.





(c) Remove the bolt and No. 1 guide.
(d) Remove the 2 O-rings from the dipstick guides.

84. REMOVE EXHAUST MANIFOLD SUB-ASSEMBLY LH





(a) Disconnect the A/F sensor (for bank 1 sensor 1) connector.





(b) Remove the 6 nuts, exhaust manifold and gasket.

85. REMOVE EXHAUST MANIFOLD SUB-ASSEMBLY RH





(a) Disconnect the A/F sensor (for bank 2 sensor 1) connector.





(b) Remove the 6 nuts, exhaust manifold and gasket.

86. REMOVE STARTER ASSEMBLY
87. DISCONNECT WATER BY-PASS HOSE





(a) Remove the bolt and clamp.





(b) Disconnect the 2 hoses.

88. DISCONNECT HARNESS AND CONNECTOR FROM AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION (for 2WD)
89. DISCONNECT HARNESS AND CONNECTOR FROM AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION (for 4WD)
(a) Disconnect the connector and harness.

90. REMOVE FLYWHEEL HOUSING SIDE COVER
91. REMOVE DRIVE PLATE & TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SETTING BOLT
92. REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY (for 2WD)
93. REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY (for 4WD)
94. REMOVE DRIVE PLATE AND RING GEAR SUBASSEMBLY





(a) Using SST, hold the crankshaft.
SST 09213-70011 (09213-70020), 09330-00021





(b) Remove the 8 bolts, front spacer, drive plate and rear spacer.





95. SEPARATE ENGINE FROM FRONT SUSPENSION CROSSMEMBER SUB-ASSEMBLY (for 2WD)
(a) Remove the 2 bolts, then remove the crossmember from the engine.





96. SEPARATE ENGINE FROM FRONT SUSPENSION CROSSMEMBER SUB-ASSEMBLY (for 4WD)
(a) Remove the 2 bolts, then remove the crossmember from the engine.

97. INSTALL ENGINE STAND
(a) Install the engine onto an engine stand with the bolts.





(b) Remove the 4 bolts and 2 engine hangers.

98. REMOVE ENGINE MOUNTING BRACKET (for 2WD)
(a) Disconnect the 2 clamps from the LH side.
(b) Remove the 8 bolts and 2 brackets.





99. REMOVE ENGINE MOUNTING BRACKET (for 4WD)
(a) Disconnect the 2 clamps from the LH side.
(b) Remove the 8 bolts and 2 brackets.





100. REMOVE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL CARRIER ASSEMBLY (for 4WD)
101. REMOVE V-RIBBED BELT





102. REMOVE NO. 2 ENGINE COVER
(a) Disconnect the harness clamp.
(b) Remove the 3 clips and cover.





103. REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE COVER
(a) Remove the 3 clips and cover.





104. REMOVE INJECTOR DRIVER
(a) Remove the bolt, 2 nuts and injector driver.





105. REMOVE NO. 2 IDLER PULLEY SUB-ASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the bolt, idler pulley cover plate and pulley.





106. REMOVE V-RIBBED BELT TENSIONER ASSEMBLY (for 2WD)
(a) Remove the 5 bolts and tensioner.





107. REMOVE V-RIBBED BELT TENSIONER ASSEMBLY (for 4WD)
(a) Remove the 4 bolts and tensioner.

108. REMOVE WATER PUMP PULLEY
109. REMOVE INTAKE AIR SURGE TANK SUBASSEMBLY
110. REMOVE NO. 2 SURGE TANK STAY
(a) Remove the bolt and stay.





111. REMOVE WATER HOSE JOINT
(a) Remove the bolt.
(b) Disconnect the 2 hoses and remove the pipe.

112. REMOVE ENGINE WIRE
(a) Remove the engine wire from the engine.

113. REMOVE INTAKE MANIFOLD
114. REMOVE FUEL TUBE SUB-ASSEMBLY





(a) Pinch and pull the fuel tube connector to disconnect the connector from the delivery pipe.

NOTICE:
^ Check for any dirt and foreign matter contamination in the pipe and around the connector. Clean if necessary. Foreign matter may damage the O-rings or cause leaks in the seal between the pipe and connector.
^ Do not use any tools to separate the pipe and connector.
^ Do not forcefully bend or twist the nylon tube.
^ Check for any dirt and foreign matter on the pipe seal surface. Clean if necessary.
^ Put the pipe and connector ends in plastic bags to prevent damage and dirt contamination.
^ If the pipe and connector are stuck together, pinch the tube between your fingers and turn it carefully to free it. Then disconnect the tube.





(b) Remove the 2 bolts and tube.

115. REMOVE FUEL PRESSURE PULSATION DAMPER ASSEMBLY





116. REMOVE NO. 1 FUEL PIPE SUB-ASSEMBLY
(a) Disconnect the 2 hoses.
(b) Remove the 2 bolts and pipe.

117. DISCONNECT NO. 2 FUEL PIPE SUB-ASSEMBLY
118. REMOVE HIGH PRESSURE SIDE FUEL PUMP
119. REMOVE NO. 2 FUEL PIPE SUB-ASSEMBLY
120. REMOVE NO. 3 FUEL PIPE SUB-ASSEMBLY
121. REMOVE NO. 2 FUEL DELIVERY PIPE SUBASSEMBLY
122. REMOVE NO. 1 FUEL DELIVERY PIPE SUBASSEMBLY
123. REMOVE FUEL INJECTOR ASSEMBLY
124. REMOVE KNOCK SENSOR





125. REMOVE RADIO SETTING CONDENSER
(a) Remove the 2 bolts and 2 condensers.





126. REMOVE V-BANK COVER BRACKET
(a) Remove the bolt and bracket.

127. REMOVE IGNITION COIL ASSEMBLY





128. REMOVE ENGINE OIL LEVEL SENSOR
(a) Remove the 4 bolts, then remove the sensor and gasket.





129. REMOVE OIL PRESSURE SWITCH ASSEMBLY
(a) Using a 24 mm deep socket wrench, remove the switch.





130. REMOVE ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR
(a) Using a 19 mm deep socket wrench, remove the sensor and gasket.
