FLOOR SHIFT ASSEMBLY

COMPONENTS:

ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION
1. INSPECT SHIFT LEVER POSITION
a. When shifting from the P to R position with the ignition switch on and brake pedal depressed, make sure that the shift lever moves smoothly and moves correctly into position.
b. Start the engine and make sure that the vehicle moves forward when shifting from the N to D position and moves rearward when shifting to the R position. If operation cannot be done as specified, inspect the park/neutral position switch assembly and check the shift lever assembly installation condition.

REMOVAL
1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
2. REMOVE FRONT CONSOLE UPPER PANEL GARNISH
3. REMOVE CONSOLE UPPER PANEL ASSEMBLY
4. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL END RH
5. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL END LH
6. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX PLATE
7. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX REGISTER ASSEMBLY
8. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX
9. REMOVE NO. 2 CONSOLE BOX DUCT
10. REMOVE FRONT EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY
11. REMOVE FRONT FLOOR HEAT INSULATOR NO. 1

12. SEPARATE FLOOR SHIFT GEAR SHIFTING ROD SUB-ASSEMBLY
a. Remove the nut and separate the floor shift gear shifting rod sub-assembly.

13. REMOVE FLOOR SHIFT ASSEMBLY
a. Disconnect the connectors.

b. Remove the 4 bolts.
c. Remove the floor shift assembly.

DISASSEMBLY
1. REMOVE SHIFT LOCK RELEASE BUTTON COVER
a. Using a small screwdriver, remove the shift lock release button cover.

2. REMOVE POSITION INDICATOR HOUSING UPPER
a. Disconnect the indicator light wire sub-assembly from the shift lever plate.
b. Using a screwdriver, remove the position indicator housing upper.

3. REMOVE POSITION INDICATOR LENS
a. Using a screwdriver, remove the position indicator lens from the position indicator housing upper.

4. REMOVE INDICATOR LIGHT WIRE SUB-ASSEMBLY

a. Remove the indicator light wire sub-assembly from the position indicator lower.
b. Remove the position indicator bulb from the indicator light wire sub-assembly.
c. Remove the position indicator bulb cap from the position indicator bulb.

d. Remove the transmission control switch connector from the floor shift assembly

e. Using a small screwdriver, disengage the locking lug of terminals (4) and (8), and pull the terminals out from the rear.

5. REMOVE SHIFT LOCK RELEASE BUTTON
a. Remove the shift lock release button and spring from the floor shift assembly

6. REMOVE POSITION INDICATOR SLIDE COVER
a. Remove the position indicator slide cover from the shift lever guide housing.
b. Remove the position indicator slide cover No. 2 from the position indicator slide cover.

7. REMOVE SHIFT LOCK CONTROL ECU SUB-ASSEMBLY

a. Remove the shift lever nut and lock pin from the floor shift assembly
b. Remove the shift lever guide housing from the floor shift assembly.

NOTICE: First remove the shift lever nut and lock pin, then disengage the 2 claws.

c. Remove the 2 screws and shift lock control ECU sub-assembly.

8. REMOVE POSITION INDICATOR HOUSING LOWER
a. Remove the position indicator housing lower from the shift lever guide housing.

9. REMOVE TRANSMISSION CONTROL SWITCH
a. Remove the transmission control switch from the shift lever guide housing.

INSPECTION

1. INSPECT TRANSMISSION CONTROL SWITCH
a. Connect the park/neutral position switch connector.

Standard Resistance:

b. Disconnect the transmission control switch connector of shift lock control unit assembly
c. Measure resistance according to the value(s) in the table when the shift lever is moved to each position.

ADJUSTMENT
1. ADJUST SHIFT LEVER POSITION

a. Remove the nut and disconnect the shifting rod from the connecting rod swivel.

b. Turn the control shaft lever of the neutral start switch counterclockwise until it stops, and turn it clockwise 2 notches to set it to the N position.
c. Move the shift lever to the N position and tighten the nut while lightly pushing the lever toward the R position.

NOTICE: Do not push the shift lever too hard.

d. After adjustment, check that the shift lever moves smoothly and the shift lever and gear operate correctly.

REASSEMBLY

1. INSTALL TRANSMISSION CONTROL SWITCH
a. Install the transmission control switch to the shift lever guide housing.

HINT: Securely engage the claws.

2. INSTALL POSITION INDICATOR HOUSING LOWER
a. Install the position indicator housing lower to the shift lever guide housing.

HINT: Securely engage the claws.

3. INSTALL SHIFT LOCK CONTROL ECU SUB-ASSEMBLY

a. Apply MP grease to the hatched area of the shift lever guide housing as indicated in the illustration.

b. Install the shift lock control ECU sub-assembly with the 2 screws.

c. Install the shift lever guide housing with the shift lever lock pin and a new shift lever nut.

NOTICE:
^ Install the shift lever nut and lock pin after first engaging the 2 claws.
^ Securely engage the claws.

4. INSTALL POSITION INDICATOR SLIDE COVER
a. Install position indicator slide cover No. 2 to the position indicator slide cover.
b. Install the position slide cover to the shift lever guide housing.

5. INSTALL SHIFT LOCK RELEASE BUTTON
a. Install the shift lock release button and spring to the floor shift assembly.

HINT: Securely engage the claws.

6. INSTALL INDICATOR LIGHT WIRE SUB-ASSEMBLY

a. Securely connect the 2 terminals of the indicator light wire harness to the transmission control switch connector.
b. Install the position indicator light bulb to the indicator light wire sub-assembly.
c. Install the position indicator bulb cap to the position indicator light bulb.

d. Install the indicator light wire to the position indicator lower.

NOTICE: Make sure that the indicator light wire is securely installed to the position indicator lens.

e. Connect the indicator light wire connector to the floor shift assembly

7. INSTALL POSITION INDICATOR LENS
a. Install the position indicator lens to the position indicator housing upper.

HINT: Securely engage the claws.

8. INSTALL POSITION INDICATOR HOUSING UPPER
a. Install the position indicator housing upper to the shift lever guide housing.

HINT: Securely engage the claws.

9. INSTALL SHIFT LOCK RELEASE BUTTON COVER
a. Install the shift lock release button cover to the position indicator housing upper.

INSTALLATION

1. INSTALL FLOOR SHIFT ASSEMBLY
a. Install the floor shift assembly with the 4 bolts.
Torque: 8.3 Nm (85 kgf-cm, 73 inch lbs.)
b. Connect the connector to the floor shift assembly.

2. INSTALL FLOOR SHIFT GEAR SHIFTING ROD SUB-ASSEMBLY
a. Install the floor shift gear shifting rod sub-assembly with the nut.
Torque: 13 Nm (130 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.)

3. ADJUST SHIFT LEVER POSITION
4. INSPECT SHIFT LEVER POSITION
5. INSTALL FRONT FLOOR HEAT INSULATOR NO. 1
6. INSTALL FRONT EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY
7. INSTALL CONSOLE BOX DUCT NO. 2
8. INSTALL CONSOLE BOX
9. INSTALL CONSOLE BOX REGISTER ASSEMBLY
10. INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL END LH
11. INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL END RH
12. REMOVE CONSOLE UPPER PANEL ASSEMBLY
13. INSTALL FRONT CONSOLE UPPER PANEL GARNISH
14. INSTALL ENGINE UNDER COVER NO. 1
15. CONNECT BATTERY NEGATIVE TERMINAL
16. PERFORM INITIALIZATION
