Fuel Injector (for Port Injection)

REMOVAL

1. PRECAUTION

CAUTION:
- Before working on the fuel system, disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
- Do not smoke or be near an open flame when working on the fuel system.
- Keep gasoline away from rubber or leather parts.
- Do not allow fuel to spray when removing the pipe between the high pressure side fuel pump and the fuel injector. The fuel in the pipe is highly pressurized.

2. DISCHARGE FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE

CAUTION:
- Do not disconnect any part of the fuel system until you have discharged the fuel system pressure.
- Even after discharging the fuel pressure, place a piece of cloth or equivalent over fittings as you separate them to reduce the risk of fuel spray on yourself or in the engine compartment.

a. Disconnect the fuel pump connector.
b. After the engine has stopped on its own, turn the engine switch off.

HINT: There is a possibility of DTC P0171/P0172 being set.

c. Loosen the fuel tank cap, then discharge the pressure in the fuel tank completely.
d. Connect the fuel pump connector.

3. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.

19. REMOVE INTAKE AIR SURGE TANK
a. Disconnect the purge line hose from the intake air surge tank.

b. Remove the bolt and purge VSV from the intake air surge tank.

c. Disconnect the ventilation hose, union to check valve hose and water by-pass hose from the intake air surge tank.

d. Disconnect the 4 wire harness clamps from the intake air surge tank.

e. Remove the bolt and water hose joint from the intake air surge tank.

f. Remove the bolt and disconnect the surge tank stay from the intake air surge tank.

g. Using a 5 mm hexagon socket wrench, remove the 6 bolts, 2 nuts and gasket.

20. REMOVE FUEL DELIVERY PIPE SUB-ASSEMBLY

a. Pinch and pull the fuel tube connector to disconnect the connector from the delivery pipe.

NOTE:
- Check for any dirt and foreign matter contamination in the pipe and around the connector. Clean if necessary. Foreign matter may damage the O-rings or cause leaks in the seal between the pipe and connector.
- Do not use any tools to separate the pipe and connector.
- Do not forcefully bend or twist the nylon tube.
- Check for any dirt and foreign matter on the pipe seal surface. Clean if necessary.
- Put the pipe and connector ends in plastic bags to prevent damage and dirt contamination.
- If the pipe and connector are stuck together, pinch the tube between your fingers and turn it carefully to free it. Then disconnect the tube.

b. Disconnect the 6 injector connectors and 2 clamps.

c. Remove the 4 bolts and fuel delivery pipe.

NOTE: When removing the delivery pipe, hold the pipe by both ends and pull it straight upward.

d. Remove the 4 delivery pipe spacers from the intake manifold.

21. REMOVE FUEL INJECTOR ASSEMBLY

a. Remove the 6 fuel injectors from the fuel delivery pipe.

NOTE: For reinstallation, attach a tag or label to the injector shaft.

b. Remove the 2 O-rings from each fuel injector.

INSTALLATION

1. INSTALL FUEL INJECTOR ASSEMBLY

a. Apply gasoline to 2 new O-rings and install them to each injector.

NOTE: Check that there is no damage or foreign material in the groove of the injector when installing the injector's O-rings.

b. Install the 6 fuel injectors to the fuel delivery pipe.

NOTE:
- When the injector does not rotate smoothly, the O-ring may be pinched. Remove the injector and install a new O-ring to the injector.
- Make sure that the injector is between the plastic stopper parts labeled A in the illustration.

2. INSTALL FUEL DELIVERY PIPE SUB-ASSEMBLY

a. Install the 4 delivery pipe spacers to the intake manifold.

b. Install the delivery pipe (with injector) to the intake manifold.

NOTE: When the injector does not rotate smoothly, the O-ring may be pinched. Remove the injector and install a new O-ring to the injector.

c. Install the 4 bolts.

Torque: 17 N.m (173 kgf.cm, 13 ft.lbf)

d. Connect the 6 injector connectors and 2 clamps.

e. Push the fuel tube connector onto the delivery pipe and push up the retainer to engage the claws.

NOTE:
- Check for damage or foreign objects on the connected part.
- After connecting, check that the fuel tube connector and the pipe are securely connected by pulling on them.

f. After connecting the fuel tube, align the paint marks on the delivery pipe.
