Condenser HVAC: Service and Repair

Condenser:




CONDENSER

REMOVAL

1. REMOVE COOL AIR INTAKE DUCT SEAL
2. DISCHARGE REFRIGERANT FROM REFRIGERATION SYSTEM
3. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.

4. REMOVE ENGINE ROOM SIDE COVER RH
5. REMOVE ENGINE ROOM SIDE COVER LH
6. REMOVE NO. 1 AIR CLEANER INLET
7. REMOVE FRONT BUMPER COVER
8. REMOVE MILLIMETER WAVE RADAR SENSOR ASSEMBLY (w/ Dynamic Radar Cruise Control System)
9. REMOVE RADIATOR SUPPORT OPENING COVER
10. REMOVE HOOD LOCK CONTROL CABLE COVER
11. REMOVE HOOD LOCK ASSEMBLY

12. REMOVE UPPER RADIATOR SUPPORT SUB-ASSEMBLY




a. Using a clip remover, detach the 6 clamps and remove the wire harness.




b. Disconnect the connectors.
c. Remove the 5 bolts and radiator support.

13. REMOVE LIQUID TUBE SUB-ASSEMBLY A




a. Remove the 2 bolts and disconnect the liquid tube from the cooler condenser.
b. Remove the O-ring from the liquid tube.

NOTE: Seal the opening of the disconnected parts using vinyl tape to prevent moisture and foreign matter from entering them.

14. REMOVE DISCHARGE HOSE SUB-ASSEMBLY




a. Remove the bolt and disconnect the discharge hose from the cooler condenser.
b. Remove the O-ring from the discharge hose.

NOTE: Seal the opening of the disconnected parts using vinyl tape to prevent moisture and foreign matter from entering them.

15. REMOVE COOLER CONDENSER ASSEMBLY




a. Loosen the 2 bolts on the bottom side of the condenser.
b. Remove the 2 bolts and cooler condenser.

INSTALLATION

1. INSTALL COOLER CONDENSER ASSEMBLY




a. Install the cooler condenser with the 4 bolts.

Torque: 5.0 N.m (51 kgf.cm, 44 in.lbf)

HINT: If the condenser is replaced with a new one, add compressor oil to the new condenser.

Capacity: 40 cc (1.4 fl. oz.)

Compressor oil: ND-8 or equivalent

2. INSTALL DISCHARGE HOSE SUB-ASSEMBLY




a. Remove the vinyl tape attached to the pipe and connecting part of the cooler condenser.
b. Sufficiently apply compressor oil to a new O-ring and the fitting surface of the pipe joint.

Compressor oil: ND-OIL 8 or equivalent

c. Install the O-ring on the discharge hose.

d. Install the discharge hose on the cooler condenser with the bolt.

Torque: 5.4 N.m (55 kgf.cm, 47 in.lbf)

3. INSTALL LIQUID TUBE SUB-ASSEMBLY A




a. Remove the vinyl tape attached to the pipe and connecting part of the cooler condenser.
b. Sufficiently apply compressor oil to a new O-ring and the fitting surface of the pipe joint.

Compressor oil: ND-OIL 8 or equivalent

c. Install the O-ring on the liquid tube.
d. Install the liquid tube on the cooler condenser with the bolt.

Torque: 5.4 N.m (55 kgf.cm, 47 in.lbf)

4. INSTALL UPPER RADIATOR SUPPORT SUB-ASSEMBLY




a. Install the radiator support with 5 bolts.

Torque: 5.5 N.m (56 kgf.cm, 48 in.lbf)




b. Attach the 6 clamps and install the wire harness.

5. INSTALL HOOD LOCK ASSEMBLY
6. INSTALL HOOD LOCK CONTROL CABLE COVER
7. INSTALL RADIATOR SUPPORT OPENING COVER
8. INSTALL MILLIMETER WAVE RADAR SENSOR ASSEMBLY (w/ Dynamic Radar Cruise Control System)
9. INSTALL FRONT BUMPER COVER
10. INSTALL NO. 1 AIR CLEANER INLET
11. INSTALL ENGINE ROOM SIDE COVER LH
12. INSTALL ENGINE ROOM SIDE COVER RH
13. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
14. CHARGE REFRIGERANT
15. INSTALL COOL AIR INTAKE DUCT SEAL
16. WARM UP ENGINE
17. CHECK FOR LEAKAGE OF REFRIGERANT

18. PERFORM INITIALIZATION
a. Perform initialization.

NOTE: Certain systems need to be initialized after disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
